These people remind me of the Communists in Dr. Zhivago. (Wait, not in the obvious way!) Politics clouds their whole life -- love, joy, pain, fear -- it's all seen through the warped lens of politics. And the slogans are such a part of their vocabulary, that they actually start to believe them.
