For centuries the intricately carved stones of Rosslyn Chapel near Edinburgh have tantalised historians, archaeologists and devoted Christians.
A labyrinth of vaults beneath the 15th-century home of the Knights Templar is reputed to contain dozens of holy relics, including early gospels, the Ark of the Covenant, the fabled Holy Grail - and even the mummified head of Christ.
More than 550 years after the first foundation stones were laid, modern technology is about to put the legend to the test.
A group of Knights Templar, successors to the warrior monks who sought asylum from the Pope by fleeing to Scotland in the early 14th century and fought for Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn, are to make a "non-invasive" survey of the land around the chapel.
They will use the latest ultrasound and thermal imaging technology in the hope of finding evidence of the existence of the vaults.
"The plan is to investigate the land around the chapel to a depth of at least 20ft," said John Ritchie, Grand Herald and spokesman for the Knights Templar.
"The machine we are using is the most sophisticated anywhere and is capable of taking readings from the ground up to a mile deep without disturbing any of the land.
"We know many of the Knights are buried in the grounds and there are many references to buried vaults, which we hope this project will finally uncover."Rosslyn Chapel, or the Collegiate Chapel of St Matthew as it was to have been, was founded in 1446 by Sir William St Clair, third and last Prince of Orkney.
Built as a celebration of Christ, it is also a monument to craftsmanship.
Bristling with flying buttresses and gargoyles in the highest Gothic style on the outside, the interior is carved with scenes from the Bible, the fall of man, the expulsion from the Garden of Eden, the birth of Christ, the crucifixion and the resurrection.
"Rosslyn is an amazing building.

Historians will NEVER say that Christ died for our sins. Which doesn't make what they say any less blasphemous.
Historians will NEVER say that Christ was resurrected. Which doesn't make what they say any less blasphemous.
Geeze, do you flip out whenever you see a Discovery Channel special that doesn't mention either of these? I'm not sure why you would characterize my comments as "flipping out" except that somehow you feel the need to posture for the lurkers. When you are done, please let me know.

Heretical, certainly. Not sure if it is blasphemy, is it contemptuous? Contemptuous is a synonym for blasphemous. But, I agree; it is a heresy as well.

Flip Out - As in screaming "Blasphemy!" whenever a Historian talks about the political situation during the time of Christ, and saying that's why he was executed, rather than His dying for our sins.

I know its a theory. I spent time in France near where all this took place - Rennes Le Chateau, and I had no idea about the story at that time.

The conclusion is that there are, alive today, linial descendants of Jesus, born to him by his wife...Mary Magdalene. ~ agincourt1415
Spoken like a Mormon. If my memory serves, some of them also believe that Jesus was also married to her sister.
This is not to be confused with the many blasphemous things found in that book.

Have you not read one thing I've posted? Baigent et al DO NOT PRESENT THEIR FINDINGS AS FACT. I can't make it any clearer than that.
If you're not presenting facts, no, darling, you are NOT teaching. ~ Xenalyte
I guess that by your "logic" one cannot teach a theory as it is NOT a fact. My, my, what was all that stuff I wasn't taught at my university?
I guess that David Koresh never "taught" any of those Branch Davidians in Waco that he was Jesus as it was NOT a fact.
I guess that all of those other false prophets never taught anything as they were not facts.
Tell me, can you find this verse in your Bible:
- 2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

If you found
Holy Blood, Holy Grail fascinating, you will also enjoy
The Second Messiah, particularly the report on the capture and torture of Jacques de Molay.

I see that you are still strutting like some kind of barnyard rooster. I never "flipped out" and I am not "screaming". But, it is really funny to watch you strut around for the lurkers. Are you going to now call me "anal" like you did another poster a few posts back?

Suggest "Born in Blood" by Robinson. An excellent history with terrific research.

Your synopsis indicates that if you indeed read the books, you didn't retain much.
I politely suggest you reread (or read for the first time), "Born in Blood". The Author, Robinson, was an excellent historian and scholar and no, wasn't a Mason when he researched and wrote the book.

I have read
Holy Blood, Holy Grail and found it both fascinating and informative. The whole history of Rennes-le-Chateau, Knights Templar, and the
Sang real made for quite titillating reading. The authors made an interesting and original argument for their hypothesis.
Oh yeah, and I didn't lose my faith, either. Try reading The Vicars of Christ sometime... now that book will shake yer faith but good.

Yes, stick to the Bible, a book that teaches about talking snakes, forbidden fruit, magic gardens, demons, and an invisible man who lives in the sky. The concept of other intelligences besides one's own (i.e. the existence of other minds) is a rather problematic one - cf. Plantinga's exchange with Mackie on this topic.
Many Christians are of the opinion that the talking snake, the forbidden fruit and the garden of Eden are symbolic representations. Cf. Origen, et al.
At no point does the creation account say that God lives "in the sky". It says that He dwells outside of the world that He created.

... an ancient cult that has little more historical basis than the last Indiana Jones movie ... Did you mean to go visit 'come-bash-christianity.com' instead?
To: CCWoody
Hey Woody - have you read the book in question? Or are you labeling it blasphemy based on what someone else has told you about it?
