HELLINAHANDCART RESPONDED TO ME: "Can't charge a fee or accept ads and still keep not-for-profit status. This has been discussed before."

I must have missed previous discussions about it.

Is there a reason why FR couldn't require a "donation" (however big or small) to post to "support" FR and offset expenses? Since FR CAN take "donations," it seems like it could require a minimal one to post to help offset costs. I'm not a lawyer (and I don't play one on TV) so I have no idea about the legal aspects of such a suggestion.

Donations are voluntary. Requiring a fee is different.

It might also mean a difference in the way articles are posted, if FR were to CHARGE people to read and discuss them here. I'm not a lawyer either, but I don't think that's compatible with "Fair Use".
