[history]
A Republican senator wants to establish a temporary congressional committee on race relations that will address such issues as a national apology for racial segregation, construction of a black history museum on the National Mall and reparations for slavery.
Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas said he will broach the subject officially with his Republican colleagues as they meet and organize this week on Capitol Hill. He said "feedback has been positive" since he sent a letter proposing the special committee to incoming Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee.

Give them real opportunity in America, not the crumbs of tokenism offered by the RATs. AMEN!
Thanks for pinging me, rw. A freep is on its way. (How have you been anyway? We are getting a visit from Phyllis Sclafly up here on Thursday. Sorry you'll miss out!)
To: rwfromkansas
Thanks for the ping. Next thing you know he'll be asking Mary Francis Dingleberry to head the committee. Brownback has said some comments that sounded as if he were pandering to Hispanics too. I trust him though, but these committees are a waste of time.
Not a good day for Kansas conservatives. Did you hear about Ed Pugh? And I just read the most hateful editorial about Phill Kline I've read in a long time. I want to go back to bed.
Oh, yeah, rw, we NE Kansas Freepers are meeting Thursday to hear Phyllis Schlafly speak. If you'd like more info, let me know. I'm starting a thread today and I'll ping you.

"Taking away another issue is just a euphemism for giving in and becoming a dem. We don't need more dems and their issues becoming bad law or policy; we need opposition to their very bad ideas, and Brownback has a bunch of bad ideas of theirs here. I can't believe a Pub is pushing reparations and an apology for slavery."I totally agree with you. Frankly, when I read the article, I was shocked. I posed the question more in disbelief than anything. And, I totally agree with Mr. Almasi. This will come back to bite the Republicans.

What about Ed Pugh?

He was arrested in Topeka Saturday night for drunk driving. He got into a non-injury accident. I'm surprised you haven't heard. They covered it quite extensively here.

Old Sam not gonna wait for dems to bend Lott over one more time. This will be a good thread for all the republican apologists to line up and support Brownback, maybe they will also cite the need for reparations while they rail against Lott.

I supported Lott until he got his groove on BET.
I think Brownback is right on. It's time America had the debate and with the UM affirmative action case coming to a SCOTUS near you this month, there is no time like the present.
Put it all on the table, find out where Americans stand and go from there.
It obviously needs debating, the level of vituperation generated by T-Lo amongst fellow travelers here at FR still remains high. Air it out.

These Republicans never learn.
I hear Brownback is also for granting amnesty to illegal aliens.

I would oppose reparations and support an apology from the government of the United States.

The defenestration of the Republican Party continues. Don't say I, and many others, didn't predict this.
