I was born in the early fifties in NYC. THe neigborhood was a melting pot, Italian, Jewish, German and Irish. Went back there three years ago, and the kid says "Dad, you grew up here"? Sadly, it's just not the same.

I really believe that the day that JFK was assassinated was the very day that all things changed here in the USA. Shortly after that, the riots broke out and the cities burned. We got LBJ and all the inherent evil things that came with him. The serenity of the fifties gave way to the insanity of the sixties and thereafter. I swear that JFK's demise was the catalyst for all this. since most Americans lost faith in the society that was left for them.

I may be wrong, but it seems that after the severe shock of that event, Americans somehow, for a time anyway, lost our way. Thats when the liberals/socialists saw their chance and they pounced. It has taken us this long to begin a correction of that, although it started with Reagan. Hopefully, this correction will continue and be successful.

Would that it be so.

1957....the apex of the baby boomers....largest year of births in US history. First 10-12 years were pretty much Mom and Apple Pie but then things started to get wierd and have only gotten worse since. And I was regrettably right in the thick of some of it. I hope when I die and see my dad again that he continues to kick my ass some more cause I surely deserve it.

Try going back to where I grew up unarmed and you could very well be dragged from your car and reverse-lynched by some hostile homeys with absolutely no gratitude for The Great Society or White Guilt...lol

As do I.

I was 13. My family had not been a JFK family. But, when I arrived home, and saw my sister crying in Mama's arms, I made fun of her.

I was wrong. Sister had the right response.

...the day that JFK was assassinated...

I was three. That's my earliest memory.

(Born in the '40's) and by jove, I believe you're right! Pre-Kennedy death, we were more innocent. After his death, it seemed like more people scrambled for "security" and the dawn of "PC" was invented.

I remember laying on our stomachs in the living room, listening to all the cool radio shows while eating ice cream.
Victory garden during WWII.
Saving foil for the war effort.
WOODEN milk cases on the porch.
Saturday morning fun club started at 9:00 and lasted till 1:00.
Soap in mouth, learning manners - the hard way, sometimes.
Total respect for elders.
Lying was grounds for serious injury!
Forts, fields, kick the can, marbles, dolls.
No "kid safe" toys. Everything was home made and had straight edges (OH HORRORS!)
No car seats, no seat belts.

My grandmother told me when SHE was a kid, they weren't even allowed to yell OUTSIDE if the house windows were open and the adults inside might be disturbed(!!)

>>the riots broke out and the cities burned<<

I grew up in MD outside of DC (Bethesda), and went to school in DC, I remember all too well the riots, war protesters, Watergate, etc etc.

>>Hopefully, this correction will continue and be successful<<
I hope so too. I'm making sure my kids are aware of whats going on and fight the good fight as well.
