Our big treat was a visit to Howard Johnson's.

Restaurants were something we visited only when on vacation. Who could afford to eat out?

We never,ever, went out to eat except on vacation and sometimes on very special occasions such as Mother's Day, but even then, my mom's requested dinner was a hot dog from Rutt's Hut.
