A Nation Once Again (Irish Folksong)
When boyhood's fire was in my blood
I read of ancient freemen,
For Greece and Rome who bravely stood,
Three hundred men and three men;
And then I prayed I yet might see
Our fetters rent in twain,
And Ireland. long a province, be
A Nation once again!
Chorus:
|: A nation once again, :|
And Ireland, long a province, be
A Nation once again!
And from that time, through wildest woe,
That hope has shown a far light,
Nor could love's brightest summer glow
Outshine that solemn starlight;
It seemed to watch above my head
In forum, field and fame,
Its angel voice sang round my bed,
A Nation once again.
Chorus:
It whisper'd too, that freedom's ark,
And service high and holy,
Would be profaned by feeling dark
And passions vain or lowly;
For, Freedom comes from God's right hand,
And needs a godly train;
And righteous men must make our land
A nation once again!
Chorus:

Isn't that the national anthem of Wales? Wales ain't got no nation, they swim back and forth in the ocean waitin for some good ol boy to harpoon them.

3) Dil Dil Pakistan, Vital Signs I prefer the Rush version myself.
Rush didn't do "Dil Dil Pakistan"----you're thinking of "A Passage to Bangkok." ;-)

For some reason, your post put this into mind....

Everything you need for your "shotgun" wedding!
Located in Windsor, Maine. Hussey's slogan is, "If we don't have it, you don't need it."

Go to the Milwaukee Irish Fest , the third weekend of August, and you'll find out. Actually Irish folk music and Scottish folk music are close gaelic cousins. But if you don't "get" that type of music, don't listen to it. I'm sure if you named your type of music, I might be able to sling a lot of mud at it. I might add that my own tastes are pretty eclectic. On my car cd right now is the Mills Brothers Greatest Hits. "glow little glow worm...."

Yeah, I noticed that after posting :).

I much prefer the Mel Brooks version in the play, "The Producers." "Prisoners of love, prisoners of love,
Can't keep our hearts in jail,
Prisoners of love, our turtledove's
Soon comin' round with bail.
Oh, you can lock us up
And lose the key,
'Cause heart's in love are always free...."
Though since there is both multiculturalism and nationalist hatred well represented on this BBC list, it seems to me that "Springtime for Hitler," deserves at least an honorable mention.

I learned "A Nation Once Again" from Paul's grandfather in "A Hard Day's Night." Odd that that's the only tune from that movie on the list.

BBQ lutefisk?!??? Please...my Norwegian relatives served up a pile of that stinking slop for Christmas. The smell is still with me. Hmmmmm....on second thought BBQ lutefisk would have to be an improvement.

If you happen to find yourself in London sometime soon, go see the musical We Will Rock You. It's at the Dominion Theatre on Tottingham Court. You'll fall out of your seat. I can't say enough about it.

Any top-ten list that doesn't include either a Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd tune is a but daft.
That said, you should see my MP3 collection. I kinda like listening to music when you never know what is coming next. It could be Beethoven, it could be Beatles, or it could be the Sons of the Pioneers! I love variety. Heck, I sometimes even listen to the world music program he talks about in the article. I'd like to have more irish folk music and similar stuff, but I rarely see it even in used record stores.

Now,Endless Love by Diana Ross and Lionel Ritchie was a song that REALLY sucked.

Naw, a better choice would be Barbra(sic) Streisand's rendition of "Send In The Clowns" when a lib guest took a seat...
