I think Lott made a very stupid remark which destroyed his ability to push the Bush agenda effectively. For the good of his Country and his beliefs, he needed to resign the leadership post. He can now act to repair his image from a less visible position. It appears Rules may be just such a backwater for him. I wish Trent well.
Do I believe that Lott is racist? No.
Do I believe that Lott is the best choice to lead the Senate in 2003? No, again.
Bush has a very important two years ahead of him. He needs the ablest people on his team. Lott was a major libility. Frist appears to be an excellent choice, and the professional medical experience can't hurt. We must active decisively.
