Or just the Lott Stabers? Count me in with that crowd. Lott lost me when he let clinton off the hook during impeachment. I was weak on him before and after that due to his limp-wristed dealings with the dims on almost ALL issues of substance. Please don't lecture me on how difficult the job is, TLB, I get it. But then he regestered his support of Affirmative Action of all things just to save his own arse and power. Sorry, but loser is as loser does. Lott deserves the shower and the bench from this day forward.
bump to read later....

Trent Lott, perpetual embarrassment, the weakest link.
Maybe he can redeem himself, but "still a player", he says? I don't think so. And just how tone deaf does Lott have to be to say such a dumb thing? The man should run from live microphones and reporters who might quote him.
John McCain will be on CBS' Sunday morning talk show. I wish he would shut up too.

Rules also has one substantive area of note, and that is campaign finance reform.

Rules has one substantive area, which is campaign finance reform. Rules is also where any investigation of campaign fraud would take place.

Rules has jurisdiction over campaign finance and election reform, and is also where any investigations of electoral fraud will take place.

Thank you for the info. CFR, eh? There is no way Lott will fill the shoes of McConnell in that department.
To: Rensselaer
Sounds like the perfect spot for Lott.... No investigations of any consequence are going to take place no matter who's in charge, imo.

Hmmm, maybe its best not to bring up NC State basketball, since I grew up in Houston during the Phi Slamma Jamma era(U of Houston fans are perhaps the only ones in the world who didn't enjoy Valvano/Wolfpack's Cinderella finish!)

I remember that night well! I was so scared I didn't even SEE the final shot go in.......LOL.

the new President pro-tempore should be a Republican. When Jeffords switched, Strom Thurmond was no longer President pro-tem and Byrd became President pro-tem.
So, who is the longest-serving Republican in the Senate? They will likely be President pro-tem.
To: Mad_Tom_Rackham
No, it's a good move. Lott is savvy about Senate technicalities, Frist is not. Frist will need his counsel. As for Lott's letting Clinton off the hook--had Buba been convicted by the Senate, Gore would be president today. Lott gets a bum rap for this, though I agree he has been too eager to compromise on important issues in the past.
To: Rensselaer
I think that Lott may be good a that job, especially if he feels that he has a score to settle and there is no opportunity to accuse him of racial bias.

We are going to find out pretty soon......You can bet it isn't going to be Byrd.
To: BuddhaBoy
Well, I guess Trent would give away the store, if past performance is indicative of future possibilities. But who knows maybe Dr. Frist will give away more of the store at a faster pace than Trent would. It's all a farce, isn't it?
To: GraniteStateConservative
Hey, this is really good satire. The problem with Trent is that he probably thinks his press secretary actually released this ridiculous statement. Poor Trent, he just can't remember what he belives or for how long. Still he should not have been removed as "leader" over a silly comment at a birthday party.
To: TLBSHOW
Sharpton is probably going to try to solicit a campaign contribution from the wealthy Dr. Frist. And he may well get it too!!! Dr. Frist seems like too nice a guy to run the Senate. Remember the old adage, "nice guys finish last."
To: Eva
I agree with you. The Rules Committe is an excellent place for Lott.
To: Jimmy Valentine's brother
Rules is the only job where racial blackmail can't be applied to force Lott to vote their way.
