Yes that does happen, rarely, but if a perfectly good descriptive word is hijacked to describe a perverted, reprehensible group of outlandish homos, then it seems to go past "the meaning and application" you describe.

"Queen" and "queer" used to be perfectly good words, too, and "chickenhawk" actually meant a bird....
