Posted on 01/02/2003 5:11:27 PM PST by ZGuy

John Campbell just announced live on the Hugh Hewitt Show his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat now filled by Barbara Boxer!

His Bio :

Assemblyman John Campbell is a fourth generation Californian. Born in Los Angeles, Campbell has lived in Irvine for over 24 years. He is an accomplished businessman and has a record of success in the state legislature.

For the past 24 years, Campbell has worked in the automotive industry in Orange County. He spent a majority of his career representing several automobile franchises including Nissan, Mazda, Ford, Saturn and most recently Saab. Campbell is also a Certified Public Accountant who, prior to his automotive career, was a tax accountant with Ernest & Young in Los Angeles.

During his first year in office, Assemblyman Campbell established himself as a legislative leader. Campbell advocated solutions to the 2001 energy crisis that balanced environmental and economic concerns. He partnered with Democrats to pass crucial pro-consumer legislation that limited unsolicited phone calls. He helped spearhead efforts to conform California tax law to federal tax reforms that enable Californians to save additional money for retirement and education.

In recognition of his leadership, he was appointed to the esteemed role of Vice Chair of the Assembly Budget Committee. John also serves on the Utilities and Commerce Committee and the Insurance Committee. It is because of his work in these areas that he had the honor of being the first freshmen legislator to receive the California Small Business Association/Roundtable Legislator of the Year Recognition.

John successfully advocated for community priorities, as well. He won legislative victories relating to the clean up of the Newport Upper Bay, coastal zone open space, and Corona Del Mar?s Vision 2004 project. The Los Angeles Times Daily Pilot placed him in its top 5 most influential community members in 2002.

Before being elected to the State Assembly in 2000, Campbell served on the board of directors of numerous professional and community groups and associations. He is currently a member of the Young Presidents? Organization and is a recent recipient of their Legacy Award. He is also a member of the National Republican Legislators Association and was their 2001 Freshman Legislator of the Year. John is also a member of Irvine Presbyterian Church where he sings in the choir.

Assemblyman Campbell continues a family tradition of public service. His great-grandfather, Alex Campbell, was elected to the California State Assembly in 1860 as part of Abraham Lincoln?s Republican ticket. Both his father and grandfather worked in the newspaper business, the latter as managing editor of the Los Angeles Herald.

Assemblyman Campbell received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of California in Los Angeles and a Masters Degree in business taxation from the University of Southern California. John and his wife, Catherine, have been married for over 23 years and have two sons, Taylor and Logan, who both attend public schools.

Assemblyman John Campbell represents Aliso Viejo, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest, Newport Beach and Tustin.

Tom McClintock
We can win in 2004 if we focus on the ISSUES, conservative issues.

I'm with you!

Reminder to all...Simon only lost by 16,000 votes! Okay? That's not a LOT.

Also, a nice looking conservative MAN will also get lonely single liberal women voting FOR him. A lot of women vote by looks.

Also, since Gray is going to SINK the state with the Budget Deficit REPUBLICANS look great. It was a blessing they didn't win, because Davis will have to cut a lot even if he raised taxes 200%!

So, Californians, freepers, lend me your ears. Stop the negativity.

Lets ELECT this guy, get the vote out and we CAN!

Go John! Where can I contribute? I may even move back to California so I can vote for this guy.

Dump Boxer 2004! Let her continue her acting 'career' (TRAFFIC 2001).....

In in California it is possible to defeat a Boxer...... in the words of Michael Savage, she is much more suited to running a newstand than serving as a US Senator.

How is he any better off than Bill Simon? I realize that Simon ran a poor campaign but the trouble is the VOTERS in 3 areas of California OUTvoted the rest of the state and re-elected your ROBBER IN CHIEF for Governor! I think that Republicans can ONLY win in California if their candidate is bigger than life ~ Arnold S would be their only real hope and it sounds like he'll do his running for the governorship in 06'....

One of the most carefully guarded secrets in this country:

Barbara Boxer is one of the stupidest Americans ever born. Her main purpose on this planet is to make Dianne (sp?) Feinstein look intelligent.

How the Republic of the Golden Bear wound up with these two hideously stupid bimbos from Hell as Senators is one of the cosmic mysteries of the ages.

What is Campbell's team going to do about: (A) Voter Fraud, which can turn up HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of votes in LA, SF, and SD which was clearly done to give Gore the State in 2000 and (B) What will he say about illegal immigration?

Remember 1992, the "Year of the Woman" that also gave us our first "Black President?" That's how. The Lady Senators, sadly, are no more hideously stupid that the majority of voters who elected and re-elect them. Of course the rampant voter fraud in CA you mention is certainly a major factor too. Now we have the Sanchez Sisters in Congress. Coincidence? I think not (in resonating Larry Elder tones)....

I will vote for anyone but Boxer.
My hopes are that the people of CA have had enough of that witch. Perhaps all the sea hags who voted her in office will vote for an attractive man instead. Stranger things have happened!

Well,,, according to the 2-3-02 issue of the Orange County Register, page 1 of the Local section...
JOHN CAMPBELL of the 70th state district is running for
Ca. STATE Senate - NOT Boxer's US Senate seat. (Wish I had learned how to post to FR!)

I think Roger Hedgecock should run for Boxer's seat - He's already been on her butt for years.

You are correct.

From the Orange County Register:

GOP pair to vie for Senate
Assemblymen John Campbell, Ken Maddox will duel for Ross Johnson's seat.

The Orange County Register

Republican Assemblymen John Campbell and Ken Maddox each announced Thursday that they would seek the state Senate seat of Ross Johnson, who is stepping down next year because of term limits.
The decision sets the stage for a fiercely competitive race in the predominantly Republican district, which stretches from Seal Beach to Laguna Beach. Both candidates handily won re-election last month and are popular in their districts, which both include parts of the contested Senate turf.

"It's a tossup," said political consultant Harvey Englander. "It's always fun to watch two elected officials from the same party go at it."

Because of District 35's heavily Republican composition, the primary victor in March 2004 is expected to win easily in the general election.

Both Campbell and Maddox have solid reputations in the GOP but are easily differentiated by their backgrounds and voting records.

Campbell is a certified public accountant and car dealer who grew up in Los Angeles and gathered degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Southern California. Maddox was raised mostly in Texas, where his father was often unemployed and existence was sometimes hand- to-mouth. When he began college, Maddox lived out of his Plymouth Horizon. He was a Tustin police officer before being elected to the Assembly.

While generally voting the GOP line, Maddox has occasionally irked fellow Republican legislators with his support of pro-labor measures. Prominent among these is the eight-hour workday, which requires employees to be paid overtime when working more than eight hours a day. Campbell favors a return to the previous law, in which an employee had to work more than 40 hours a week before receiving overtime.

Maddox has already won the endorsement of the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association and is expected to gain backing from other local and statewide police and firefighter unions, which have endorsed him since he was first elected to the Assembly in 1998.

"I've consistently worked on behalf of working families," said Maddox, who is in the process of moving from Garden Grove to Dana Point. Garden Grove is not in Maddox's Assembly district, but state law requires residence in the district only at the time of candidate's filing – not after being elected.

Campbell came out of the gates Thursday with endorsements from Johnson and from Senate Republican Leader Jim Brulte of Rancho Cucamonga. Campbell, first elected in 2000, touts his leadership, particular being the ranking Republican on the Assembly Budget Committee.

"Although I've been in the Legislature a shorter time, I've been more likely to take leadership posts," said Campbell, an Irvine resident.

Maddox countered that he's been central to more legislation. That includes co-authoring the bill establishing the Amber Alert for abducted children and writing the measure requiring a higher level of treatment for sewage pumped into the ocean by the county sanitation district.

In a race that could cost each campaign more than $1 million, Campbell's connections and own bank account are likely to give him the financial edge. But Maddox's first Assembly victory, in which he outpaced two fellow Republicans with more money, showed he can overcome better-funded campaigns.

I'll give you that but still, the great unwashed were staring down the business end of a 25 billion(disclosed at that time) deficit and STILL voted for every one of those multi-billion dollar bond issues. Ecchhh. The people here disgust me with their stupidity.

His Bio and Credentials are excellent.

Based on the Modus Operendi of the Dems in despair of holding the seat, and/or gaining one, it is well known that, it will be a "No Holds Barred" down and dirty, mud slinging, caracter assasination et all, just to WIN.

The BIG question is,... can he handle the heat?...it is well known, that "nice" guys finish last...and I have seen quite a few "nice" guys(I am talking about nice Republicans, mind you, not my best choice), getting pretty clobbered by the Dem's political machine.

The Republican Party in SoCal stinks to high heaven. They do not seem to find their asses with both hands, and so far, managed to botched pretty much every single election, for one reason or another, since Wilson left office.

Look at Sacramento...it is 90% owned by Communists, and God help us in the next 4 Years.

Let's put it this way...I am holding my breath no mo' this time around. I almost killed myself last time!

g: "Afteer 4 morte years of tax and spend liberals, he will be a very attractive candidate."

So after decades of massive immigration, and the state becoming more & more liberal, Kali voters are going to suddenly have enough of tax & spend liberals, see the light, and start voting conservative, after being enlightened by a no-name Repub candidate. Yeah, that'll happen! It's a sure thing! I believe that!

Whoa....I thought he was announcing for the State Senate. I'm surprised Hugh didn't mention that he was running for BBs seat.

For what it is worth, I e-mailed his office and got a response yesterday. You are correct Michelle Hart the district director for Assemblyman John Campbell told me “Assemblyman Campbell has announced that he is running for the state senate. He will be seeking to replace Ross Johnson in the 35th district who is leaving due to term limits.” That is what I thought I had heard him say.
