Slick could have convinced him that history will remember his "sacrifice" for the cause of democracy.

Oh I'm sure Slick convinced him of something, but it ain't about getting Dashole elected

I heard the DNC is pretty much broke .. Hillary is the one who has been all over the country/world collecting money before the CFR went into effect ..

I ain't buying this bid for President .. something smells

Please identify the accomplishment that qualifies Daschle for the Presidency.

He is a senator with an ego at least half of the size of the state he represents.

AP:
Associates expect Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt to announce he's running within the next week and Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman is leaning toward a run, though he hasn't set a final timetable for his decision. Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle is still talking with supporters with a plan to decide by mid-January.

Some associates say Daschle has been talking more like he might run, though one said Tuesday he has not shared a final decision.

It means HE HAS TO GIVE UP HIS SENATE SEAT in order to run for President.

??? are you sure?? .. I know he can't run for both elections .. but I didn't know he would have to step down.

And if that is true .. why would he do that .. he has no chance in hell of winning even the primary

This thread is getting more enjoyable as it goes on! Now THAT would be a carnivorous treat for a Conservative Dog!

How's about Daschle/Condit. What an attractive pair!

"didn't SD just change their rules and Dashole can't run for Senate and President at the same time??"

Oh that would be such a shame. Actually, he is probably doing it to save face. People will understand when he gets his @ss whupped by Bush, but if Thune mops the floor with him he will look like the pathetic, sniveling little weasel that he is.

Will Daschle be like Dole, and automatically get the nomination because it is "his turn"? Or, will Hillary decide to run, and there be some interesting internal fighting amid the splintered ruins of the Democrat leadership? All the old, tired, hustings clichés will be broken out, way too soon since the last election, for my tastes. Pedantic press pundits will pose, "Which candidate will catch fire?" "Who has the 'Big Mo'?" "Who will 'resonate" with the American public?" The only way you'll ever see Daschle catch fire, is if he sits on a hot plate. Perhaps Hillary will spontaneously combust. I hear that that particular fate is reserved for the most wicked and miserable souls, and so Hillary is quite well qualified. Imagine a convention fight between Daschle and Gephardt. Can one get a hernia from yawning too often? Some idiot will pronounce that ...the nomination is Kerry's to lose..." That's what they said about Gore. What did Hillary say to Gore to get him to drop out? "My book will outsell yours?" All in all, the next major election will come way too soon. I wish they would just let us have a few years off of this endless charade of mendacity. Oh well, se la democracie!

He's so statuesque.

Yes, l'il Tom is the leader for the 21st century.

(How can he even think he could win? geesh.)

The news today in my state, North Carolina, is that John Edwards will announce Thursday morning he is running for President. I am pleased to hear he is running, he will find out exactly how much power and influence he has. All I hear is "He is so good lookng" well, lets wait and see. Time will tell. This won't be like winning a big court case.

The plan is coming into focus.

I agree. The Demorats will push the most polarizing figures in the party primaries in order to make the real candidate appear to be a moderate. Sort of like what Buchanan did in 92 and 96.

Somebody! will only enter if the polling shows that she could win.

Agreed. And this is another reason that it is in her interests for there to be a crowded Democrat primary where no clear consensus candidate emerges.

She can then determine whether she wants in, based on how she feels her prospects would be. See, she has never taken a risk in her life and she is not about to take one now. If things work out for her, she can get the rat nomination without ever having to take the risk of entering a primary!

If the prospects of beating Bush remain dim, then she simply keeps her head down and lets one of the other chumps get sacrificed. That way she can never be branded a loser since she never said she was "in" to begin with. No risk.
