WASHINGTON (AP) - Officers along the U.S.-Canadian border and on New York City's streets are being extra vigilant for five men of Middle Eastern origin who may have crossed the border into the United States on Christmas Eve.
Officials have not ruled out a connection to a terrorist plot or cell, but they could not confirm a link, either. White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Monday the intelligence that triggered the search came from an anti-terrorism investigation.

Seems only logical to me to expect that these ME types are looking to attack the U.S. on the West Coast. Otherwise, why did they leave the Toronto area, and travel quickly to British Colombia?
Perhaps to pick up a weapons cashe and explosives from a friendly North Korean sleeper cell living undercover as 'wealthy Chinese emigrants' in Vancouver, a city swarming with over 300,000 Chinese?
Los Angeles would be a likely target for such an attack for several reasons: (1) To prove aQ is capable of rudimntary planning and evading capture (to attract admiring Islamics); (2) To terrorize the U.S. with fear and the impact of targeting both coasts; (3) To maximize publicity of a high profile attack in California.
Possible targets come to mind: The Rose Bowl Parade, the Rose Bowl itself, and the very heart of film industry residing moguls in Pasadena and Beverly Hills.

Detroit, dammit, Detroit! There are more practicioners of the "Religion of Peace" in southeast Michigan than anywhere else in the nation. Add to that the proximity to the international border at Detroit and Port Huron and you've got an easy hiding place (talk about hiding in plain sight!).
God bless everyone, and please, please, whatever you do, stay alert! Even though the Feds don't have to brains to raise the threat level, we've got to act as if they have!

I'm thinking possible Seattle or Portland. Since the lefties are in charge, and a large islamist population (imported and homegrown) is influential there (emasculating the police a la Mayor Katz), it's a soft target and close by. You couldn't pay me to be near the Space Needle on New Years Eve.

"And any time anybody enters the country illegally, we want to know why they're here, and we want to question them."

Well, gee. I have about 5 million in L.A. County for them to question.

I want to be an optimist, but I really doubt these guys will be caught before they commit terror. I keep thinking back on the DC snipers and I just can't hold much hope on the government's ability to catch them. The USA is a free society and without someone stumbling on these guys, with millions of places to hide, how does anyone in the government propose to catch them?

What ticks me off is some months ago Canada bashed US (the U.S.) for PROFILING and said THEY Would not discriminate just because entries into their country were MID-EASTERN.

Any truth to the rumor that aQ has been trying to teach elite terrorists Spanish? Just wondering ....

From the article linked in #2 above:"The box bothered me because of the way it was wrapped and also the unusual size. It was poorly and cheaply wrapped. It looked like it was cardboard and wrapped in wrinkled brown paper and duct tape. I just found it odd. It took two of them to get it into the van."
Does this sound like POSSIBLY enough explosives to bring the "needle" down? A hundred pounds of C-4, possibly.
God help us all.

I read Benjamin Netanyahu's book on terrorists and how to stop them. He says in the book that the reason we don't have many terrorist acts in the United States is because we are a free society, and we talk a lot to each other without fear of government telling us to be quiet.
He points to the OKC bombing, and how Tim Mcviegh was sketched perfectly hours after the bombing.

Can you imagine any area that would scream louder and longer than Los Angeles??
Oh, the drama!

If we are ever nuked I am thinking its going to be on the West Coast.
Not only would it be a softer target for terrorists...but a tactical one as well. Since the wind blows from west to east. It would cover the rest of the U.S.

You beat me to it, so I'll add a note to the irony of that statement being made in the state of Texas which is way up there on the illegal immigrant win list.
Oh, and a state whose former governor continues to make nice with senor Fox and his various commissions and departments for the betterment of mexicans 'overseas' (well, it's water anyway).
