Bump. Far more realistic a vision ( or as some would say pessimistic)...

We have lost a whole year. saudi funding continues unabated...and Pakistan's jihadis ( including our good friend Mush) are now ready to unleash a bloodbath in Kashmir soon and a guerrilla warfare in Afghanistan. Where contrary to all the lessons of Nam and counterinsurgency efforts by various countries like the UK across the world,
halfarsed political considerations have overriden military objectives and our troops have now become pawns in the BUsh POwell scenario to not upset Pakistan.

Sgt Checo's death at the hand of the jihadis was the first result of this politically driven ineffectual strategy that treats American soldiers as cannon fodder.

As for Iraq, we have huffed and puffed. Our best hope is a coup and abdication by Saddam to Tripoli as rumored.

How long with the UN inspections continue?

Did you miss something on the 28th ?

It' all over but the shouting. We're going in, the Iraqi military will fold, Saddam and his progeny will be "dealt with", there'll be a parade, soldiers will get kissed, pretty girls will smile for the cameras, kids will get chocolate from American soldiers.

Absolutely President Bush has a strategy to drop democratic bombs on the Middle East. He is also attempting to innoculize Africa from Islamacism. Now's not the time to go wobbly, to quote Lady Thatcher.

Your concerns for the top of the world in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Kashmir are of another order and quite legitimate. The keystone in that region, (and I know You know), is Pakistan, seemingly an intractable problem. But you're right in that it is the Saudi money at the root of funding the arms, and Maddrass breeders of terrorists.

And that may be the key to the intractability: remaking the Middle East, cutting off extremist funding, and exacting continuous pain on the enemy. Then you may argue that we're running out of time for that process to produce results in Pakistan.

OK, if that's not enough, then Pakistan will have to be involuntarily disarmed of its nukes. That'd be OK by me.

They (Pakistanis) had better watch how we deal with Iraq and North Korea, because that type of nuke rattling simply will no longer be tolerated.
