So would it be fair to assume that you always pay cash at the supermarket and don't use the store discount cards because it allows them to know what you personally buy?

If I did that it would cost me an extra $5 a week. The discounts are worth the sacrifice in privacy for me, as they are for almost all the supermarket's patrons. Voluntary exchange, nothing wrong with it. Why is what Shop-Rite does a good and ethical business practice while doing it for music would be bad?

Where I live there is only one grocer that uses those cards. And, no I don't shop at that store. Competion is a beautiful thing - I just shop at the other stores. They are actually bigger nicer stores anyway. I guess the difference is when buying general groceries the grocer is tracking what you buy to target you with discounts and such. They aren't building a database to PROSECUTE you with it. Somehow this just sits differently with me. One is benign. The other is malevolent.
