"Harry said that Lincoln did things to get us into the Civil War, because he needed to get us into the Civil War. World War 1 was the same way.

Um, I think all Lincoln did was get elected, but my history may be a little rusty.

Libertarian ideology is convenient cover for communists under fire.

Funny how libertarians were busy smuggling printing presses and fax machines into the collapsing USSR given their penchant for communism and all.

Teller speaks when Penn isn't around. The running gag is Penn is a big know it all, but he dosen't know that his partner can speek.

Well, the South already knew what they were in for before Loncoln got elected, so in a sense, your'e right. But the issue about his election was about heavy tariff on the Souther states he was in favor of.

I personally think he knew what the South's reaction to the tariff would be and wanted a war. Only by war could the states power to paralyze the expanding power of the federal government with their ability to determine who citizens of the US might be and their power to control the Congress' ability to pass legislation could be reduced.

The effects of that authoritative central government philosophy we are seeing today.

"Actors are not necessarily that smart," Ruprecht conceded. "It doesn't mean you're stupid, but you don't have to be smart to be a good actor or a good dancer."

One thing I've discovered that I like/dislike about DVDs is the commentary track:  I've listened to it on a few movies and it's amazing how incredibly -astonishingly- stupid some actors are.  I mean, truly amazing.  I've been left wondering how the brains of some of these people are able to multitask between keeping the body standing and the heart beating.

The commentary on Resident Evil, with Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez is simply....unbelievable.  Those two are jaw-droppingly stupid and annoying.

You are correct...of course, Maher is the only person who calls Maher a libertarian.
If Maher is loosertarian leaning, then Hildabeast would be called conservative leaning...

I worked for a woman who dated PJ during his National Lampoon days. She told me some hilarious stories about him, including the secret to what makes his humor so damn funny.

I, of course, am sworn to secrecy and cannot divulge it. Let's just say it is as obvious as Chesteron's mailman.

That's liberal think in a nut shell!

I believe you misunderstand my thoughts about Libertarianism. Either that, of you misunderstand the subversive nature of our Marxist friends. I do not wish to denigrate anything Libertarians might do to advance liberty here or elsewhere, but I have seen insects molt and know that they seek cover. What do you think the Democratic Party has been for the last 50 or more years?

I agree, the only time they care about freedom is when it comes to freedom to practice their perverted lifestyle, drugs, hate-speech against America, freedom to worship the earth while taking away others private property rights, and ofcourse freedom to deprive another of the most basic right of all, LIFE.

He didn't mention Mel Gibson? I thought he was pretty conservative?

I apologize if you think that I reject any avenue of thought that promotes freedom and strengthens America. I certainly recognize potentials in the Libertarian movement every bit as much as I recognize the faults and failing of the Republican Party and it's leadership.

It is the Libertarian's central idea of liberty that allows for the convenient, generic camouflage so needed by leftists to increase their waning appeal, and, as you said, for some of them liberty just means libertine behavior. Many former Democrats are fed up with their party's corruption by the left and have found the new agenda of the Democratic party to be too much to bear. Meanwhile, other ideologues are looking for another haven to set up shop and continue their tactical thrust into the heart of American ideals and institutions.

It is the primacy of the political philosophy that is important and the party is merely an instrument. In this way, any party or platform can become a hijacked tool of a philosophy differing from that of the founder's original intent. The ACLU is a poignant example of this synthesis. Who among us on FR would argue that an organization that purports to defend civil liberties could possibly be a bad idea? Nobody…unless you realize that their words and actions do not agree and they practically care only for selected liberties.

Today, the practical reality is that Democrats are the de facto party of Marxism and a host of truly sick allied social agendas. For blue-haired, die-hard unionists and prairie populists, the true nature of the beast they still serve is hidden from them by their idealism of the past. In some ways, the same arguments can be leveled against the Republicans, especially when critters like McCain and other RINO's can even be counted in the fold. Then again, goats will always hide among the sheep.

The main thing, to me, is that deeper principles be grasped and defended. This may lead to shedding of party affiliations as we see in some elements of the left. If the truth be told, many posters here seem to have reached identical conclusions about the usefulness of the Republican party. Even so, the Republicans are SUPPOSED to be the party that defends rule by law and the Constitution. For me, it is pure pragmatism leads me to work within the structure of the Republican Party, but I would be more inclined to identify myself more as a conservative or a Constitutionalist in terms of true political affinities.

I don't have a DVD player.

Still, you must understand that actors' comments aren't supposed to be sincere. Thoses DVD promos are just that -- promos. Same as on a talk show. And actors' jobs are to promote, praise, and marvel at the genius over everyone connected with the project, and what a pleasure it was to work with everyone, and how brilliant and exciting and fun the final product is. Those comments don't represent their true feelings, it's just ad copy.

Actually, if you ever get a DVD player, you will find that to be the exception rather than the rule.  I can only think of one DVD where the director blatantly overstated the end results of a bunch of CGI work and the headline actor talked-up a shoddy, coasting, performance.

Usually, the commentary track to the movie is quite honest.  Sometimes brutally so.  I normally will avoid the Horror genre because I find slasher/psycho - type movies boring and unnecessary but someone recommended Session 9 and I watched it.  It was good enough that I went back and watched the commentary by the director and was very impressed with his honesty about some continuity problems the film had, and his pointing out of a couple direction errors he made and how his poor choices confused the audience about one or two points.

In the Resident Evil commentary, the two guys (I think the director and producer, if I recall correctly) were trying to discuss the film seriously and weighing certain decisions they made and problems that cropped up but Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez were buzzing through the commentary track, incessantly blathering like a couple of high school twits who'd snorted a too much coke before the session.  It really got to the point where you wished one of the guys would lean over and smack the two of them.

I'll probably never bother to see a film with either of them again, just because they're obviously self-centered little snots.

Maher voted for Nader, and Browne is the suck. Otherwise, reasonably good post.
