I had a resume posted at the state WorkSearch. Pacific Legal, a legal documentation service, called me and asked me to come in for an interview. They are in the IBM building in downtown Seattle. It cost me ten dollars in parking just to go to the interview. The production manager interviewed me and said he would need to consult with the managing partner, but that I would be in a second round of interviews at worst. There was no offer to pick up the parking garage tab and after I left that day, I never heard from them again.

I was asked to come to Los Angeles for an interview (as one of 3 finalists), with an offer to pay for my parking and meal expense. I drove 400 miles, arriving the night before. When I got to the client no one was expecting me, the recruiter hadn't bothered to book an actual interview, the hiring manager was out, and the recruiter had no desire to cover my expenses. I noticed the guy the client finally hired left recently...before a year was up.

Yeah, well beat this: I had an interview at MSD Capital (The company that manages Michael Dell's money). I had an interview on the phone that went very well. Then, they told me to come in. I lived in CT at the time, they were in NYC. I missed a whole day of work (+ I had train costs, etc). On the phone, I told them all about how I look at investments (A contrarian deep-value sort of approach). I am in the interview for two minutes, and the guy says "So are you more of a value guy or a growth guy?" I said value. He said "Well, we are growth here. So I don't think it will work out".

What a god dammned waste of time. Anyway, presumeably they have since gotten creamed in the market. Good. This was in early 2000.

Oh, poor you. You had to pay for your own parking.

Hubby drove from Memphis to Knoxville for a job interview with a 2 way Communication shop. Guy was an algorebatross type who couldn't keep employees. Never offered to pay for even half the gas much less the motel for the night. Job retraining when you are 55 would be costly and time consuming, at least a year, which puts you even closer to retirement and further away from a job because of age discrimination. We don't have the money for retraining and sure as heck don't want to go deep into debt either. Paper resumes were sent to shops in FL, TX, OK, GA, NC, SC. Along with emailed ones. Even sent one to Trident in NC which is the last "school" he took for their new switch.

He's had several phone interviews including one from Trident, BUT no offers. 29 years experience keeping 2 way radio/base stations and transmitters equipment on the air.
