Krispy Kreme is hiring. Krispy Kreme DOUGHNUTS Retail Managers 24k-32k w/bonus
----------------------
Right. I looked up the qualifications. They read: "Applicant must be an unemployed engineer or unemployed master's degree in computer operations with ten years experience in those areas who Krispy Kreme understands will return to those fields should the economy recover. We have three such openings for 700,000 applicants."
Pal, you are nuts. You can regard that as one of the personal attacks people such as you complain about when they say something crazy as hell.

Pal, you are nuts. You can regard that as one of the personal attacks people such as you complain about when they say something crazy as hell. the poster lacks any real argument. You can join the chorus of whiners who believe it is impossible to get a job. That's your choice. None of the "obstacles" you mention are insurmountable. If a person wants a job, they can get one. My father went through hard times in the 70's and sold shoes. The man who hired him was well aware that he had a physicist on his staff, and was happy to have him.
It's a question of sales. If I were an experience engineer trying to get the Krispy Kreme job, I would find every way possible to sell whatever similarities I could find. Had I managed people? Did I have any direct reports? Maybe I managed projects. If so, perhaps I had to control costs and budgets. I would sell myself to the hiring manager. If it didn't work, then I move on. But to sit back and say it can't be done? That's the loser's way.

You can make excuses or you can make money, but you can't make both.

Damn, what a bunch of excuses. You are the crazy one. I KNOW managment in fast food, as I said, they plan on EVERYONE being temporary. I absolutely believe that the high tech folks think these jobs are beneath them. I am absolutely certain that a doughnut place would rather have a reliable person who *might* leave for something else some day, then someone who may not show up, is shiftless, etc. I am absolutely positive that Burger King, Krispy Kreme, etc could care less if you *HOPE* one day to continue to your field. Hoping to become a doctor or lawyer or return to your old job someday will not preclude you from consideration for a job with a fast food or retail place. They would rather higher someone reliable anyday, then some low income slob who might leave in 3 months anyway after ditching work for a couple of weeks.
Give me a break folks! I was a professional in the financial industry, bonded and licensed and all that, making a nice income and Lowe's and Target both had NO problem hiring me to work for them when I went looking for part time work. They did not preclude me when I said that sure, perhaps one day, I *might* go back to work for my old employer, but I promised I would work my best while I worked for them and abide by their rules. They hired me instantly. I'm wondering what kind of attitudes and requirments some of you are going to these jobs with. I have yet to be turned down or not called for any retail job I have applied for--not one! My mother works in retail and has all her life and she has not had call backs, but not me--always got called back at least. I don't think you and others are giving us the whole story, truth, whatever. Your experience is just so far from reality as to not be believed. Unless of course it's only high tech people who seem to be pariah--hell they'll higher a former stockbroker, financial advisor, nurse, etc, but they won't touch an engineer--ok, right...
