I have been fighting a running battle with my wife over baby names. She is a huge fan of the Young and the Restless and the Bold and the Beautiful, and she always leans towards trendy names in that arena.
I would very much like to name a boy (assuming we are blessed with another one) Edward, after my first ancestor who landed in this country in 1635. She seems dead-set against it so I will probably not get my wish. Our 2-year old son is named Andrew, which is a good name in my book. We had quite a struggle to agree on that one.
I absolutely refuse to name any of my children with a name with explicitly Irish roots, because neither of us has any Irish parentage. Because we're both Christian, we may end up falling back on biblical names, like one of the apostles for boys or a girls' name from somewhere else in the bible (like Rachel).

You poor thing! There isn't a decent name to be found on either "The Young and The Restless" or "The Bold and the Beautiful."
Maybe she'll go for a good Biblical first name if you let her have a soap opera name for a middle name.
Wait - there is a "Paul" on Y&R. Maybe she'll go for that.

Soap opera names are passe'. A few years ago, all the kids had "Dynasty" names. IMO, Edward is a good solid name, and it has a history behind it, which is good.

Hee hee..hey, tell your wife that I'm a fan of Y&R too, but haven't had any inclination to use a soap name since I was a teen--should get her thinking;-) There are already too many Ashleys, Brookes, etc out there. On the other hand ther are some nice normal names on Y&R like Jill, Jack, Colleen, John, Nicholas, Victoria, Grace, Billy, Sharon, Paul, and even Phyllis! But I bet it's the Brittney's, Brooke's, Ridge's, etc that she's leaning towards or you probably wouldn't have such a beef;-)
As for Irish names, we made good use of one--our son is Ryan(Irish--little king), he has the roots on both sides. Our daughter is Melissa(possibly Greek roots, possibly a simplified version of a Gaelic name Moeloeisha? which means Sweet Jesus).
Good luck with future names. We are going with either Amanda/Lauren or Kyle/Jacob if we have another child.
