Likewise, try to image Nixon, or any similarly discraced Republican president, widely accepted by rank and file Republicans as a hero, paid top dollar for speaking appearances, allowed to run the party apparatus of a major state, to dictate the distribution of national party campaign funds, to hand pick the national party chairman, etc, etc.
