I strongly and absolutely agree.

I wish we had snippets of Alamo-Girl's stuff on 3X5 cards to carry in my pocket to hand out at such moments.

We clearly need to be somehow more graciously obnoxious than they are brutally obnoxious. . . but to push the truth into the consciousness of the body politic MUCH MORE THAN THEY PUSH THE LIES!!!

It's good to keep our TONES sweet but the content devastating.

I'm also praying God does something to get her out of the Senate in disgrace long before 2004--which isn't too far off, actually.

Everyone please pay close attention to this snipet of the President's State of the Union Address in January:

Our second goal is to prevent regimes that sponsor terror from threatening America or our friends and allies with weapons of mass destruction. Some of these regimes have been pretty quiet since September the 11th. But we know their true nature. North Korea is a regime arming with missiles and weapons of mass destruction, while starving its citizens.

Iran aggressively pursues these weapons and exports terror, while an unelected few repress the Iranian people's hope for freedom.

Iraq continues to flaunt its hostility toward America and to support terror. The Iraqi regime has plotted to develop anthrax, and nerve gas, and nuclear weapons for over a decade. This is a regime that has already used poison gas to murder thousands of its own citizens -- leaving the bodies of mothers huddled over their dead children. This is a regime that agreed to international inspections -- then kicked out the inspectors. This is a regime that has something to hide from the civilized world.

States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world. By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger. They could provide these arms to terrorists, giving them the means to match their hatred. They could attack our allies or attempt to blackmail the United States. In any of these cases, the price of indifference would be catastrophic.

-----------------------------------------------------

That last sentence is key, because 10 years of indifference has potentially cost the world far more than it gained in those 10 years.

Slight correction for time and finality:

That last sentence is key, because 10 8 years of indifference has potentially cost the world far more than it gained in those 10 8 years.

Rummy is actually wrong on this. We'd be fighting on THREE fronts if you count Afghanistan

That is true, but also during WWII we fought against Japan, Germany, Itlay and in the beginning the Russians .. we fought all over the Asia Pacific, all over Europe and we also fought in Africa to defeat the enemy

And that was on in the 1940's, long before the kind of technology that we have today

I am not saying this is what we want to do and I am not saying it is the smart thing to do .. I don't know what the furture holds and what will happen .. I am just saying that if need be to protect our freedoms and peace, we will do what we have to do .. what other choice do we have?? .. to give up??

I give up. What do you suggest?

Heck, I think you've covered it. I'd go with any of those suggestions! That raspberry one is pretty good.

I It's too close to home for them to not get nervous about the entire process, and it would be in their best interest to keep North Korea under some kind of wraps.

That is my thinking also .. my guess is China does not want us over in their neck of the woods

But will N. Korea listen??

Oh I think we can do it. I am just concerned that with our troops spread all over the world, we leave ourselves vulnerable here. Perhaps this is what the sleeper cells are waiting for. Who knows really. It's all in God's hands, and I trust Him. Oh, I also trust GWB. ;)

You are so correct, these are serious times for our troops

As for the sleeper cells here, I not too worry, not to say they won't attempt to attack, I think they will try, but it would not be a smart move.

We as a country were in a state of shock on 9/11 .. now we are a bunch of pissed off folks that are armed and will protect ourselves if need be.

those 16" guns do a nice job

Assuming they actually hit the target (not guaranteed)...

Neither are airstrikes, Poohbah, you oughta know that...

Second, why are 40-50 pilots that much more valuable than 1,500 sailors you'd have to drive right up onto the North Korean coastline?

Tradition! Iowa-class BBs shelled North Korea the last time they got real frisky. I figure that with a few Arleigh Burke tin cans to provide anti-air cover, one of our BBs would make quick work of the NK's nuclear weapons program.

Our lack of naval gunfire support scares the heck out of me. The Marines aren't going to have any artillery to speak of during a landing, just jets and their own mortars.

When you get that Draft Notice in the mail, don't whine about it !

If they want me, I'm all theirs.
But being that I'm too old to join, I'll just break some kneecaps of the protesters. I remember watching the highschool kids protesting against the VietNam war when I was in second grade in NYC, even then I knew what was right.

We have failed as a nation since the end of WWII, and it is because of the politicians.
Remember we are still at war with North Korea, it was left as a stalemate.
While our soldiers were winning in VietNam our politicians were negotiating our defeat in Paris and abandoning our friends in the south(the people we promised to save from Communism).
Lebanon,Somalia, etc.. Our Soldiers give their all and win and our politicians bring us defeat.

I think the ones you need to keep from whining are the politicians!

The French are so arrogant and hostile to the U.S. as a reflex--almost like it's genetic. Jealousy maybe.

Y'know, I think you've got a point there. The French used to be a serious world power - in the 1700s.

Still, it'd be awesome to see the world's finest blue-water navy put 6-8 carrier battle groups on station in 30 days.

A willing foe, and sea room are all we need...

Kitty Hawk, Constellation and Kennedy are all conventional non-nuke boats.

Let's be a little realistic here. World War II required the service of over 10 MILLION (that's right 1 MILLION) armed forces personnel. We have nowhere near the numbers as we did back then.

The bottom line is we DON'T have the forces now to handle both Iraq and North Korea simultaneously. Iraq alone will take some 200,000 combat troops. Which leaves scarce little for North Korea. Not to mention the 20-25 other countries that Bush still has troops deployed. After Bush I and Clinton's cuts, we can muster about 12 combat divisions right now. And it will take months to muster even that much.

I'd say if the sh** hits the fan in Korea, a draft is more likely than not.

Second part in parenthesis should read 10 million as well. Typo on my part. It's actually closer to 15 million servicemembers during WWII.

You are correct, I don't disagree with you .. But we also didn't have that many troops when WWII first started .. it was built up over time

I am not saying this is the road we should take, I just meant that if we had to, yes we could do it and yes I also realize that would require calling the draft back up.. because if the sh*t hit the fan, we would have no other choice ..

However, I think we are getting ahead of ourselves considering we don't know what is going on behind the scenes and how this mess will all turn out

Yep, I was predicting an attack on Iraq by the end of January. Maybe it will be sooner.

Feb. 1st is the next New Moon. Maybe a day or two sooner if the skies are overcast.
