The USS George Washington has been put on the alert and told to prepare to deploy within 96 hours to the Persian Gulf. Developing....
Our second goal is to prevent regimes that sponsor terror from threatening America or our friends and allies with weapons of mass destruction. Some of these regimes have been pretty quiet since September the 11th. But we know their true nature. North Korea is a regime arming with missiles and weapons of mass destruction, while starving its citizens.
Iran aggressively pursues these weapons and exports terror, while an unelected few repress the Iranian people's hope for freedom.
Iraq continues to flaunt its hostility toward America and to support terror. The Iraqi regime has plotted to develop anthrax, and nerve gas, and nuclear weapons for over a decade. This is a regime that has already used poison gas to murder thousands of its own citizens -- leaving the bodies of mothers huddled over their dead children. This is a regime that agreed to international inspections -- then kicked out the inspectors. This is a regime that has something to hide from the civilized world.
States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world. By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger. They could provide these arms to terrorists, giving them the means to match their hatred. They could attack our allies or attempt to blackmail the United States. In any of these cases, the price of indifference would be catastrophic.

That last sentence is key, because 10 years of indifference has potentially cost the world far more than it gained in those 10 years.

That is true, but also during WWII we fought against Japan, Germany, Itlay and in the beginning the Russians .. we fought all over the Asia Pacific, all over Europe and we also fought in Africa to defeat the enemy
And that was on in the 1940's, long before the kind of technology that we have today
I am not saying this is what we want to do and I am not saying it is the smart thing to do .. I don't know what the furture holds and what will happen .. I am just saying that if need be to protect our freedoms and peace, we will do what we have to do .. what other choice do we have?? .. to give up??
Heck, I think you've covered it. I'd go with any of those suggestions! That raspberry one is pretty good.
That is my thinking also .. my guess is China does not want us over in their neck of the woods
But will N. Korea listen??
You are so correct, these are serious times for our troops
As for the sleeper cells here, I not too worry, not to say they won't attempt to attack, I think they will try, but it would not be a smart move.
We as a country were in a state of shock on 9/11 .. now we are a bunch of pissed off folks that are armed and will protect ourselves if need be.
those 16" guns do a nice job
Assuming they actually hit the target (not guaranteed)...
Neither are airstrikes, Poohbah, you oughta know that...
Second, why are 40-50 pilots that much more valuable than 1,500 sailors you'd have to drive right up onto the North Korean coastline?
Tradition! Iowa-class BBs shelled North Korea the last time they got real frisky. I figure that with a few Arleigh Burke tin cans to provide anti-air cover, one of our BBs would make quick work of the NK's nuclear weapons program.
Our lack of naval gunfire support scares the heck out of me. The Marines aren't going to have any artillery to speak of during a landing, just jets and their own mortars.
Y'know, I think you've got a point there. The French used to be a serious world power - in the 1700s.
A willing foe, and sea room are all we need...
Kitty Hawk, Constellation and Kennedy are all conventional non-nuke boats.
The bottom line is we DON'T have the forces now to handle both Iraq and North Korea simultaneously. Iraq alone will take some 200,000 combat troops. Which leaves scarce little for North Korea. Not to mention the 20-25 other countries that Bush still has troops deployed. After Bush I and Clinton's cuts, we can muster about 12 combat divisions right now. And it will take months to muster even that much.
I'd say if the sh** hits the fan in Korea, a draft is more likely than not.
You are correct, I don't disagree with you .. But we also didn't have that many troops when WWII first started .. it was built up over time
I am not saying this is the road we should take, I just meant that if we had to, yes we could do it and yes I also realize that would require calling the draft back up.. because if the sh*t hit the fan, we would have no other choice ..
However, I think we are getting ahead of ourselves considering we don't know what is going on behind the scenes and how this mess will all turn out
Feb. 1st is the next New Moon. Maybe a day or two sooner if the skies are overcast.
