"Number one, you immediately alienate HALF of your audience."

Ever since Julia Roberts said that Republicans are in the dictionary between reptile and repugnant, I have decided to boycott her movies, and anyone else that wants to insult those of us on the right side of politics.

It's beyond me how many Republicans continue to patronize these idiots at the box office.

This piece is so unfair. I don't remember Jane Fonda primarily as Hanoi Jane. She'll always be Barbarella or the prehistoric cavewoman with spear poised to let fly in my memories. Stop defaming her most memorable roles! ;^)

While I understand your point, keep in mind that Hanoi Jane made the bed that she is now having to sleep in. If she wants a career in entertainment, she should keep her political thoughts to herself. If she wants to make her political ideas known, she will suffer the political cost that her controversial stances bring.

I could like Barbara Streisand today if she were not such a political idiot. She has a beautiful voice, but turned me off years ago. The same goes for untold others for me personally. Long Cut is right on his posts on this article, imho.....

I think maybe you left off your sarcasm tag?....or maybe not. Happy News Years in any case, my FRiend!

I was about to include the sarcasm tag, but then I really couldn't remember any film she had starred in other than Barbarella or the more memorable leather bikini with spear pose photo.

Well said. I have been waging my own "war" against hollywood by boycotting all their efforts for years now. I too am amazed at the apathetic Republicans who help finance these idiots by going to the movies. And by downloading music and burning your own cd's you can strike back at the music industry morons as well!

I heartily agree. Nearly all of these Hollywood types ring hollow when they take up a cause. One of the most Notable was Joni Mitchell of the '60's and early '70's who went around raving about how evil the war in Vietnam was and how greedy and corrupt the USA was, all the while she lived in an exorbitant Hollywood mansion and owning a top of the line Jaguar....(Or Porsche...) The media labeled her "Phony Joni" and since then when was the last time we heard from her?

I used to work in the Motion Picture Industry for one of the large Movie companies. Trust me when it comes to waste (Financial, Human and Otherwise), Overpaid neurotic Actors, corruption, Political foolishness and idiots with causes such stories I could tell! Finally I was so disgusted that I quit that place and got a job in the real world. For an industry that prizes itself on supposedly being the paragon of liberal virtues(!) it was tghe most cynical and hypocritical entity I had ever seen.

I disagree with the view that consequences for politically outspoken celebrities are equivalent and negative, regardless of convictions.

Has Charleton Heston suffered 50 percent loss of market due to his support of the Second Amendment? Not from where I stand.

Conversely, the more stridently left-wing the scripts of West Wing have become, the greater the dive in ratings.

I submit that most Americans are conservative at heart and will reward and punish -- if they're inclined to do so at all -- in a manner not inconsistent with the views of most posters on Free Republic.
