The problem is, such wars are always inevitable. And yet, our policy since 1945 has been to avoid them. Well, I'll tell you what, just like anything else that is inevitable and repeatedly delayed, when the pot boils over, it is going to be far more painful than it would have been if we had simply dealt with it when the situation first became obvious in the late 1940s, then again in the mid 1950s, then again in the early 1960s, then again in the early 1970s, then again in the late 1970s, then again in the early 1990s....
