what accusation was that, troll? That the cartoons are antisemitic?
Only a MORON would think that a cartoon of a hook nosed Jew kvetching at a calm "peaceful" arash*t" wouldn't be antisemitic.
There's your explanation - now go find a commitment that arafat has kept to thru negotiation or go back and hang out with your bomb-throwing islami-nambla fiends.

It is the first cartoon that I said is not antisemitic (not all the other trash that the usual suspects dumped in here as proof that Jews, Santa, and tourists, were being taken advantage of, again).

I'm not sure there is a commitment that has been kept on either side. I think it is a disgusting display of duplicity on both sides, and I and the rest of the world have grown tired of it, a long time ago.

If the world has grown tired of it, that can only be because the world is sorely lacking in understanding the history and legality of Israeli settlements in both the West Bank and Gaza.

The Balfour Agreement gave the Jews the right to settle in any of the mandated territory. The White Paper of 1922 took away that right when Transjordan was formed. Now the Jews could settle anywhere in the mandated territory west of the Jordan. That Mandate has never been repealed.

After the War of Independence of 1948/1949, when Jordan controlled the West Bank and Egypt controlled the Gaza Strip, the Mandate was still in effect. Israelis were legally allowed to settle in these Arab controlled areas but did not for obvious reasons.

After the Six Day War in 1967, it was now possible for Israel to do so. UN Resolution 242 does not prevent Jewish settlements. UN Resolution 242 does not repeal the Mandate. What UN Resolution 242 does is leave it up to Israel to dispose/deal with the territory it conquered in 1967. In 1979, Israel traded Sinai for peace with Egypt. Israel does not have to give back West Bank and Gaza to the Arabs. She is not in illegal possession of it. In fact, according to the still valid Mandate, Jews can settle anywhere in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. They are doing this. It is international law.

Eugene Rostow who helped frame Resolution 242 said that the UN was careful to make sure that Resolution 242 did not trample on the Mandate. And Resolution 242 was very careful to make it clear that the final disposition of the West Bank/Gaza Strip was left clearly to Israel. She could trade the land for peace or she could not. It was up to her.

The Oslo Accords of 1993 never brought up settlements. In fact, it is purposely vague on settlements. The final disposition of Oslo would have left the settlements in place.

There is much debate internally in Israel on whether settlements should be continued. Some believe that settlements are a hinderance to the peace process. Some would say that the settlements are illegal. I do not hold that view since the Mandate has never been repealed and UN Resolution 242 leaves the final disposition of the land to Israel... and not to anyone else... Not to the Arabs, not to the Americans, and certainly not to the Palestinians.
