What really sucks is that if a plane actually gets knocked down by a shoe-bomber, we'll never know. The NTSB will cover it up and blame it on pilot error or structural failure.
When that plane crashed in New York just weeks after Sept. 11th, the government was immediately jumping up and down screaming 'IT WASN'T TERRORISM!!! IT WASN'T TERRORISM!!!' and floating every ridiculous theory imaginable to "prove" it while the crash was still burning.
Our government is getting better at preventing terrorism, but if it actually happens, they'll do anything possible to cover it up.

I remember there was a strong market rally immediately following the news that the crash was not the work of terrorists.

I think it was CNN that was promoting the accident angle. Bush came out pretty early saying that we had been attacked.

"Our government is getting better at preventing terrorism, but if it actually happens, they'll do anything possible to cover it up." Spreading "government coverup" rumors serves no constructive purpose at any time, much less during these perilous times for this country and all Americans. You might find the following of interest:

Not to mention TWA800, which simply did NOT blow up as a result of "extra fumes and shorted wires" in the center fuel tank.
Not with the holes THAT one had in it, anyway...
