Then why haven't I ever got any. 10 years on the Internet and nary a one. Not that I'm complaining.

Your email address hasn't been found by a crawler. My Yahoo account gets lots as does my hotmail account but not my other accounts.

Yet the sites are still up.

That is because they are probably FBI or other LEO sting operations.

Here's another kudos for MailWasher, I found out about it on a FR thread a couple of months ago, and it works great! By bouncing emails back to the sender, it has cut down the volume of spam on my POP3 accounts. About all I get spam on is my Hotmail account, which I used as a spam sponge exclusively. The spams sent there are the ones that are most likely not to "bounce", as their return addresses are often completely bogus.

Give it a try, its free, the maker only asks for a donation.

No legitimate product has ever been sold with spam, nor would any ever be, because of the spam reputation.

I agree. I got this SPAM from edwardsforsenate2004.com.

Dear Friend,

I’m taking the liberty of contacting you because I believe you care about the future of our country and the challenges of dealing with terrorism, economic recession and rising unemployment, skyrocketing health care costs, and an education system that is not serving all our children.

As a U.S. Senator, I deal with these issues every day. I’d like to keep in touch with you to let you know what I think we should be doing and to find out what you think.

(If you don’t want to receive occasional e-mails from me, please follow the instructions below to remove your name from our list.) I’ll write you again in the New Year. If you have any thoughts about what I and other leaders should be doing to strengthen our national security, our economy, our education system, and our Social Security, please let me know.

Together, we can solve our problems. I believe we will.

Happy and healthy holidays to you,

Senator John Edwards Paid for by John Edwards for Senate 2004, Inc.

BS. You have no clue how the Internet works.

No. B.S. to you. The cost of internet access to the general public is subsidized by advertisers. Lots of the advertising revenue is generated by porn providers. Without them paying, your $20.00/month AOL or $9.95 Netzero would probably be around $50.00/month.

Except that major ISP's restrict porn advertising. That's like saying that spam keeps internet costs low therefore spam is good.

I agree that "spam" is NOT good, but it does allow some content providers to stay afloat. Porn spam should be made illegal since the user is not initiating the contact with the provider of it.

Telemarketing scum have been nicely whacked legally, and spammers are next up.

It's already beginning. As just one example, Ralsky (the guy who's getting that karmic payback in the form of a paper mountain) has already been ordered to pay damages to AOL and stop spamming their customers.

The multi-player gamer nets are catching up, no? I don't have stat's but just read the Dvorak column in PC-Second magazine.

Are you on a fairly small ISP with a non-obvious name? Have you not posted your email address on any (non-porn) sites?

This would explain your lack of spam. Try setting up an AOL or Hotmail account and see how long you go without getting any spam.

I must be doing something wrong.
The closest I’ve gotten to spam porn is offers for “all natural enhancement” pills or Viagra.
And – I don’t need either product.
I’m a widower and haven’t yet found a replacement for her.

I am on AT&T Broadband (cable) and use their email address. I have registered at several places, but I have not just posted my email address on a website...

I would agree that you may get what you pay for with Hotmail and yahoo. Your ISP probably sells the address. They need to make money somehow on a free service.

If you think about it, people may sign up to porn websites which could explain the porn spam, but who signs up to mortgage, credit ratings, casino, low-price inkjet cartridge, financial planning or Help The Wife/Son/Daughter of A Deposed Nigerian/South African/Gabonian/Zimbabwean Prince/King/President/Prime Minister/Chief websites?

:)

After a visit to Europe last year I started receiving porn spam in German at one of my e-mail addresses. I've no idea how they obtained the address; I might have made a mistake of including it on a hotel registration form in a small village somewhere in mittel Europe. Fun!
