Imagine el Al style searches and screening on every carrier. You would be begging for the government to save you from the terrible intrusive private security companies. Every bag gets searched, every body gets patted, etc. be careful what you wish for....unless, of course, the airlines find that such a course of action turns away customers. Ain't the free market great?

If it turns away customers, then the customers are the sort who deserve to get flown into a tall building by a crazed Islamist--it's a "thinning the herd" kind of thing.

Unless of course, the customers feel more reassured with the added security and flock to the more diligent carriers. My family wouldn't fly on a carrier that would skrimp on security, perfect target for hijack attempts.
