That's because it's the light-skinned Puerto Ricans that are discriminating against the dark-skinned Puerto Ricans, Dominicans and Colombians. The results of the year 2000 Census show that 80% of Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico consider themselves white and they sure don't want any dark-skinned Dominicans on the island.
Some of the most racist jokes you'll ever hear are told by Puerto Ricans about Dominicans.
Take a look at the governor of Puerto Rico and the majority of the rest of Puerto Rico's politicians. They're as light-skinned as Mexico's governor and the majority of Mexico's politicians.
Take a look at all of the Miss Puerto Ricos that there have ever been. See how many dark-skinned beauty queens you'll count.
How about the most popular recording artists, actors and actresses in Puerto Rico?
Latinos have absolutely no right to call anyone else a bigot or a knuckledragger. Latinos have more than their fair share of haters.
Here's an article right out of the San Juan Star in Puerto Rico. Read it and weep, Ficklin.
Puerto Rico: Illegal immigration from D.R. culture clash
"... (the light-skinned Puerto Ricans) even barring them (dark-skinned Dominicans) from eating in the cafeteria or drinking from the water fountains, 'because they might get them dirty'..."
The question is, is Ben Ficklin going to accuse the San Juan Star of hate-filled rhetoric or accept these words as the truth they are?
All you have to do is look at Mexico ---they treat their servants very badly and the Mexican elite despises the campesinos. It's no surprise to me that over 80% are reporting discrimination from what supposedly is their own kind. Of course "own kind" is misleading in itself because those are artificial categories they've made.
