Trent Lott, I believe, is a decent man. He is, however, inept. I think if the President got involved in this mess, it was after Lott told BET that there had been immoral leadership in the South for a long time and that he was now for complete affirmative action. President Bush, at that moment, probably felt he had to do something. And people better start realizing that this President doesn't need Karl Rove or anybody else to tell him what to do. I am really tired of having people HERE insinuate that he can't make a decision without Rove's approval. I find that disgusting and it's what the RATS say to undermine him. Even liberal Bob Woodward had to reluctantly admit that this President is tough, strong and a leader. Bush was not about to sit there and allow this situation to continue - now, that would have been weak.

Yes Lott is a decent guy to step down on his own and not make it any worse. It's a win, win this way.
