I believe you are correct. Charlie Rangel was just on and sounded a bit more reasonable. Said he was offended by Byrd's comments as well, and although he still clung to the party line to a certain extent, he also said that racism was on both sides of the aisle.
Sounds like a pull back is beginning, to me.
Rush and others here at FR have said the same thing. I hope so, cause this is getting a little annoying.
