Stupid idiots, if you were in some other country illegaly then you could be shot or shoved into prison without food.

I have no sympathy for someone who sneaks into this country illegaly and takes advantage of our systems of healthcare and welfare.

Oh my, I wish I could be stuck in New Orleans. What's up with that screen name?

I call it a good start. Sleeper cells have taken a big hit. Imagine that. Having to obey the laws of the country you visit. A new concept for a religion which teaches its a holy act for its members to lie and steal from and trick non-muslims. Now those FEMA camps are going to be put to good use.

They were not arresting people before the dead line ended, so what is the big deal? If you went in before the deadline and registered, its done. If you waited till after the amnesty period you are illegal.

The article fails to mention if the arrests were all done in the immigration office or if the police rounded up lots of people from their homes when the deadline ended. It also failed to explain why they let the one guy go. My guess is that they decided to suddenly enforce the law. In order to make it "fair" and equitable, they need to inforce it to all illegal immigrants, not just Arabs.

""I think it is shocking what is happening. It is reminiscent of what happened in the past with the internment of Japanese Americans"....BTW which was correct considering the potential threat. If they are here illegally I am sure they will receive due process. Now they need to hit the streets to check the ones supporting these guys.

Reminds me of the old joke - What do you call a busload of lawyers driving over a cliff?

A good start.

"...Terrorists most likely wouldn't come to the INS to register. It is really a bad way to go about it. They are being treated as criminals and that really goes against American ideals of fairness, and justice and democracy," Khan said."

Key words being "most likely".

Uh, the 19 hijackers walked thru the boarding gate along with everybody else doomed to die on 9-11.

If you're in this country on an expired visa or wanted for a crime, just what should the INS have done?

I think your thinking about Mexican border jumpers. The article suggests that these people were here legally or at least came here legally. Its harder to sneak in all the way from Iran, expecially with your family. Either way, it was their attempt to comply with the law that put them in the position of being arrested in the first place.

I believe that we should start getting really sticky with muslims from arab countries, but I think that your comment may read a little that isn't nessecarily there in the article. What do you do when your visa is expiring and you are living in a foreign country and you are expecting it to get renewed any day? Do you fly all the way back to the country you escaped from just in case the INS is backed up and may not process your application in time before your current visa expires? I don't know. Fortunately, I've never been in such a position.

Perhaps they are just putting them in jail for a little while until they can catch up on their work. What with all the people being allowed to illegally stroll into the country everyday by the thousands, I'm sure they have their hands full.

To all illegal immigrants in jail: you took the risk when you snuck into America or stayed in America illegally after your legal status expired.

The protesters carried banners saying "What's next? Concentration camps?" and "What happened to liberty and justice?."

Well if they insist, it could, I 'spose be arranged. What happened to L&J?? It's called "9/11/2001"! IMHO they're barkin' at the wrong squirrels nest.

Monday was the deadline for men from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya and Sudan.

There are deadlines for a reason. Now to apply the coup de grace...

" Please step to the back of the boat....you all are in the process of being DEPORTED."

Buh-bye...
