So what? What happens to the other 50 Republican Senators? Are they somehow impotent? You don't think they'll intercede if he screws up again?
If Lott does stay as Leader, it'll be on some kind of probationary terms. Step out of line one more time and he's out. Lott spent whatever political capital that he had, and his credit limit is now 0.
I just can't see doomsday scenarios with Lott still in charge. The only thing that Lott can do is become a "suicide bomber" and choose to take such a horrendous action as to destroy everyone associated with him in one blaze of glory. That kind of narcissism I would have expected from Clinton, not Lott.

What you see is what you see. What we saw Monday night was the largest conservative sell out in GOP and conservative, if not American history. The first 6 months of parliamentary maneuvering for economic, military and social issues will define the next election, which will either give us a Hillary or Bush 2nd term. The latter is imperative because if Hillary wins, we lost the House or Senate or both. Ineffectiveness or bad, liberal crap coming out of the Senate the first 6 months is death.

The reason he wasn't challenged after Nov. 5 was because he *was* put on probation. Remember "we've circled the wagons around him"? That was the GOP Leadership talking about Lott then. This is where they show him the door, NOW!

"Lott spent whatever political capital that he had, and his credit limit is now 0."
He started at zero. JC Watts asked him to resign today, the majority of GOP Governors in DC for a national conference asked him to step down, the only conservative 'writer' that hasn't thus far is Paul Weyrich to the best of my knowledge. Do you fail to see what Lott has already done to the Party and conservatives? You underestimate what we're losing with Lott remaining in charge. Have you the BET trancript? Did you watch BET? We've been saying that Lott is a trainwreck waiting for an audience; it happened and it happened on BET Monday night.
