If you heard this through file sharing, then I suspect you are a victim of one of the most common mis-attributions is the file sharing universe. The rave-up redneck cover of Gin & Juice is by Austin's favorite band, The Gourds. Check 'em out. "music for the unwashed and well-read."

I've heard alot of Hank III, and I don't think he does this. It has also been attributed to Phish, String Cheese Incident, Leftover Salmon, and others. But it is the Gourds. It is even on their EP, "Gogitchershinebox."

But it is damn good stuff.

Thanks for clearing that up!

My friend gave me a copy of a third-hand homemade compilation CD last week, with that song and a bunch of songs by Hank 1,2, and 3.

He told me that it was Hank3 !

I looked around the internet and apparently you're right. There is tons of confusion about that song, and it is The Gourds. (It didn't sound anything like Phish!)

Anyway, thanks for the correction. I would have spent weeks trying to find the Hank3 CD with that on it.

That song absolutely kicks ass!

If you're into great odd covers, check out the Dropkick Murphys version of Amazing Grace. It starts off with a traditional bagpipe solo of the song, then goes into a crazy Irish/punk frenzy, with the bagpipe wailing off into places you never knew a bagpipe could go. Just a tip!
