I guess one of those low-wage healthcare workers forgot to give you your medication this morning?

Apparently your unemployment ran out AGAIN...and you want a 80k a year job while working from home, so you can surf the internet.

I see wonderful employment opportunities all around my city...I see companies BEGGING for mechanical engineers in the industry I'm currently employed in.

Your "RANT" proved you are clueless.

"Protect domestic industries with tariffs. Fair Trade, not Free Trade."

Why, even when someone is for it, is the word, "tariff" always accompanied by the word, "protect?" And if not "protect" then "isolation?"

This is the faulty assumption, that any and all tarffs and import duties are PROTECTIONIST! ISOLATIONIST!

There can be tariffs that are simply tariffs. Import duties that are simply import duties. All having nothing to do with evil protectionism and isolationism.

They serve a good purpose. They allow our government to collect a fee for allowing foreign companies to access American markets. They used to finance the operations of the mints in the US. "Free coinage" was not really free, but it was free to US citizens because it was financed by import duties. US citizens for the longest time didn't pay income tax and the income tax was considered unconstitutional. These were the years the US government ran partly on import duties.

Import duties are called for in the Constitution. The purpose was not to be protectionist. It was just to get some revenue.

Shouldn't this be: Why am I, Flying A, angry? Wow, you must have just looked at your 401K or something.

I am in a heacy H1B industry -- but I make SURE my skills are needed. The biggest advantage is use is the ability to easily communicate and also to see the big picture.

Most H1Bs (lots of Indians) take what the client says and exactly implement it -- irrespective of whether the desire makes sense and can stand the test of time. I stop and communicate with the client and make sure I craft durable solutions.

That's the edge we have, if we keep that edge sharpened.

"But eventually, as security produces nothing, the security people will be moved into the minimum wage healthcare jobs which won't exist."

They can try minimum wage jobs of any kind but around here (Raleigh) even jobs like stocking shelves and selling Christmas lights at Lowe's or Home Depot are already occupied by all the EEs and MEs from companies such as Nortel and Cisco that were laid off last year.

I was fortunate enough to transfer my skills from mechanical design & engineering over to the facilities field and land a fill-in contracting position in my field with a small company but I am living project to project and the commute more than doubled. Last year at this time I was at least getting "Thanks, but the position has been filled" responses from my resume submittals. Now, I'm not even getting responses at all.

I have a 14 year old son that spent the summer working for a small-time landscaper and he loved it. Though a 14 year old's dreams and goals are constantly be amended, my advice for him was to stay in school (obviously) and, as time goes by, if he still has that interest in a few years, start directing his studies in that direction. Most importantly, however, if he has dreams of owning his own business, pay attention in Spanish class.

Why are people angry? Because, despite the propaganda that they're being given "empowerment", they're realizing they have no power at all.

You've added 3 letters to my word - "IST" - putting a spin on what I wrote.

Medicine heals, Sleep rejuvinates &

Tariffs protect

...its just describing a matter of fact.

Actually, according to Paul Harvey, I understand since American changed things over there - it allowed the rival groups to renew their 'tribal' fighting and it has allowed the poppy grower to once again plant them for herion export.

Don't jump - not a comment on the military aspect.

It's more than the military. IT's about business, education, and rebuilding the infrastructure. Not to mention QoL issues, flying kites, watching movies, shaving your beards, girls going to schools, not living in a pervasive islamofascistpolice state.

As far as opium, if the US shut that down, there'd be attacks on the US. What else are they gonna grow?

And don't blame the growers; it's a supply and demand thing; if there was no demand in the USA and Europe, they'd have no one to sell it to.

Paul Harvey also blamed Serbia back when. He's not infallible. Sometimes he's just stupid and ignorant.

How frustrating it must be, with all those 'furriners' standing in the way of your plans to implement employment quotas, living wage for workers, and five-year-plans.

Wow, that is a high pitched whine....

The issue is ENRON and WORLDCOM, corruption abound,

Sure, that was so successful that they are going to jail, the companies are dead and other 'corrupt' companies are filing amended statements proving the system works.

no voice for LABOR,

Oh, labor has the airlines by the balls, they just squeezed a little to hard at UAL.

no extention for UI,

The safety net has already become a hammock, why should I lose money out of my salary because you aren't trying to find a job?

raises for senators, I actually agree with you here...

anti-bankruptcy legislation for the poor,

Erm, no... that legislation would hurt the eeeeevil rich more than the poor simply because they have more to lose...

bail outs for corporations,

Yeah, 'cuz people don't work for corporations and need jobs, they need a UI extension! (what's the matter with you?)

It's not just an issue of techies getting screwed. The whole populace is getting screwed, outside of the billionares who are getting richer.

The 'billionaire' have seen more of their wealth decreased than any of us because a lot of those billions were stock options... I want the billionairs to get rich and put that money into the market so companies can expand and give me a job where I make a confiscatory amount of money so that you can whine about me too.

Tech jobs gone,

Erm. no... I have one.

manufacturing jobs gone. The jobs that are here are going to FOREIGNERS.

...and you want labor to have 'a voice'!?--that would guarantee the job exodus. It is not a patriotic duty for a company to hire US and go out of business. Stop trying to screw the corporations and this will reverse.

We continue to dump too much money into Defense.

As evidenced by 9/11 I suppose... (are you stupid?)

American's aren't making great wages any more, so taxes are severly low

Severly low!!! Bwahahahaha! I make a pretty good wage. I got a $350 X-mas bonus. Know how much I got to keep? $200.11. How much would you like me to keep?

but the government keeps spending. MASSIVE DEBT MASSIVE DEBT MASSIVE DEBT MASSIVE DEBT MASSIVE DEBT MASSIVE DEBT

Then why do you want more UI?

Where are these new jobs going to come from ?? Medicine and hospitals?? Really? Who's going to pay for the medical bills so that one can make $30K as a med tech?

Not a 'single payer', that's for sure... You better pray the corporations stop getting screwed so that they can pay you more.

How many med tech jobs are there? Maybe it's law? God knows we don't have enough lawyers (roll eyes).

'Kay, you don't have to be a Med Tech... Go for more skills, get a scholarship, go to school and make a ton of money. Or start your own business 'temping out' med techs and roll with the economy.

There are very few jobs I see left that can't be done by H1Bs or done by Mexicans, VERY FEW.

No, probably only jobs that you can do with your skills. You need less whine and more skills.

Service jobs, like mechanic, plumbers, garbage men, retail, McDonalds etc. are the wave of the future...but they will all be low paying jobs.

Mechanics, plumbers and garbage men make a ton of money.

The sad thing is that the benefit of globalization is to bring about improved economies in the third world. But what good does that do us if the manufacturing and service jobs are already in those countries?? We don't gain at all from them becoming wealthy, not a bit.

Sure we will, now they can buy our crap.

But CEO's and corporate home offices do, about 100 people per company?

Hey, I got a small X-mas bonus that the Gov took half of... With more money, they will purchase more goods and services. What can the Gov do with my $150 they stole that's better than what I could do by hiring a plumber or a mechanic, or buying a burger and beer?

Salaries are going to plummet, mark my words. Jobs are going to be scarce.

That already happened, we are in the recovery from it, it just seems that you don't want to play...

And deflation or hyper inflation is going to hit us.

LOL, Yeah, one or the other....

You really don't understand how the economy, markets and the labor market work, do you?

Well, as I said, I don't know anything, my post was sort of tongue in cheek.

Now I guess I didn't understand the objective. Somehow I thought it was all about Osama Bin Laden and destroying the terrorist. Silly me.

As far as opium, if the US shut that down, there'd be attacks on the US. What else are they gonna grow?< And don't blame the growers; it's a supply and demand thing; if there was no demand in the USA and Europe, they'd have no one to sell it to.

Well, I didn't intend to argue with you, as I said, my post was not intended for that. But I can't be so cavalier about the fact, if true, we have once again, made it possible for Afghanistan to grown and export herion to destroy this country.

Paul Harvey also blamed Serbia back when. He's not infallible. Sometimes he's just stupid and ignorant.

WEll, he wasn't blaming anyone - it wasn't given as an opinion - but as a fact. If it is a fact - it is a fact and is one of those unintended consequences.

As I said, it was meant as a tongue in cheek comment - but did not expect post justifying growing poppies for herion. That was quite a surprise.

Supply side economics. What would you grow, or me? Beans or a lucrative cash crop?

Would you say the same thing if they realized they could get a camera and involve themselves in child pornograpy? There must be quite a bit of demand for that and it would probably be a 'lucrative cash crop'.

If the fraudulent representation of skills is as common among H1Bs as you claim, and if the H1Bs do as bad a job as you claim...then the H1B market will simply go away.
