Shades of Richard Nixon. They sent a delegation like this to him, and he resigned. Needless to say, the Democrats did NOT do this to clinton. Nor should the Republicans agree to do it to Lott. Why on earth should Republicans act as hatchet-men for Democrat liars and extortionists?

Pubs should have gotton rid of that guy when he did the power sharing deal. Trent Lott is not a bright bulb and he is a liability now. Politics is not pretty. And my bet is he is a closet racist, with the winks at the country club. I know the type, the south is full of them and they think they can play both sides of the fence.

That was my thought exactly as well when I read this. Can anybody remember all 4 GOP senators who were the ones to bell the cat and make that long trip down Pennsylvania Avenue, to tell Nixon that he couldn't win this one?
I know two of them were Barry Goldwater of Arizona and Hugh Scott of Pennsylvania. Who were the other two?

There were also private discussions about whether party elders-perhaps former GOP leaders Robert Dole of Kansas and Howard Baker of Tennessee--should approach Lott soon to ask him to step aside for the good of the party. They WERE the delegation sent to Nixon
