There is so much disagreement even among medical professionals concerning smallpox. I don't think anyone really knows the hard facts.

This is about 99% untrue. There may be disagreement about whether or not smallpox bioweapons are a real danger, but the efficacy of vaccination is a thoroughly proven success story, and any doctor who is not a quack knows it.

Then why are some doctors afraid of it? I wish I knew more. I really hope you are right; I look forward to reading your links after I'm through reading this thread. I guess as someone pointed out there are all sorts of possible bio-weapons so smallpox isn't the only worry out there on that front.
