"They" don't have to do anything, "we" will do it for them.

Feeding the beast only makes it hunger for more.

We should have hit the beast with a 2X4 the day this Lott business emerged.

It would all be over by now.

The point is that by going along with the liberals who attacked Lott, many conservatives have empowered these attacks. Lott's guilty, too, for apologizing and pandering.

If Lott and other Republicans had stood up from the beginning and told people upset about his Thurmond tribute to shove it, none of this witch hunting would have happened.

But once conservatives agreed with liberals that Lott's birthday party remarks were "appalling" and "reprehensible", the left had an opening to go through Lott's voting record. They then announced that the man who made statements that "even conservatives agree were horrible" had also voted against quotas and the King holiday, and had supported Bob Jones, etc..

The link was then drawn. Lott made "racist" comments, therefore his voting record on racially charged issues also must be "racist". And anyone who has voted the same way must be a "racist" as well. That includes anybody who is passably conservative (Nickles, McConnell, etc.).

By not fighting the idiotic claims that Lott's birthday remarks were racist, it snowballed into this. Lott has himself to blame, of course, because he didn't fight to defend himself. He lost my support over that. But all the conservatives who joined in with Maxine Waters & Co., howling that Lott's comments were horrifying and shocking, carry a lot of responsibility for what has happened.

Conservatism itself has now been defined as racist.

I said this on another thread days ago that they would be searching for anything on any possible replacement for Lott.. Going back to kindergarten to get everything and anything they wrote. This isn't about racism.. It's about power. The Democrats can't stand the thought of being the minority party and nothing is too low for them to stoop...

The democrats will always dig for and/or fabricate whatever dirt they can throw, so the point is to take this situation and use it to replace Lott with a leader who will be effective in getting the president's nominees and legislation passed in the Senate.

The lack of respect for Lott that you see among conservatives is nothing new. Many of us have wanted him replaced for a very long time. This vicious attack on him from the left is quite deliberately designed to prevent Republicans from putting someone else in charge.
