I think of hell as a bubble protecting perfection from imperfection . . .
and protecting imperfection from the painful, consuming, fire invading disintegration that close association with Perfection would be upon/to imperfection.
Evidently when God gives free-will, He sticks to the bargain--someone doesn't want His perfection--He allows them their bubble to avoid it. Choosing to live at the bottom of a cesspool makes little sense. But who said mindless hedonists were any more wise and responsible about their own wellfare than they were toward those they use and abuse?

I think of hell and eternal punishment for something done here on earth for perhaps 70-80yrs, as incredibly cruel, unjustified, and unnecessary.
