Rick Santorum is a great person and he should get the job. I have never said this on FR but I covered him as a news reporter here in PA for the last two years. He is a great person. I can't say enough good about him.

Lott has got to go. It has nothing to do with this current situation. It started with the Clinton impeachment and how he weasled out of that. He should have been gone long ago.

Hey Sink, do you also believe that Lott was "forced" to turn the Clinton "trial" in the Senate into a travesty thus completely undermining the hard work and bravery of the House Republicans?

If he hadn't, Al Gore would be President of the United States today.

And, if he had put a bawling Monica Lewinsky in a chair in front of the Senate, to be grilled by Bob Barr, the soccer moms (who hated the Republicans over impeachment anyway) would have given Gore a landslide in 2000.

Trent Lott could of stood up and defended his record on Affirmative Action very easily, as any good standing conservative would. I'm not sure who advised him to go on BET, but Trent Lott can only blame himself now. We all have seen this before and so has Trent Lott. This is pure politics and even the most racist members of the CBC can't say he is a racist in front of the cameras, But as far as politics go, Trent Lott has shown me that he isn't to skillful

Lott said what he said the other night at Thurmond's party because he believes it. He may be ashamed to admit it, but he does. He said the same thing in 1980 and has probably said it many other times as well (undocumented in public and in private). This wasn't Lott getting caught up in the moment of an old man's party and just saying something stupid-- which the whole notion is absurd (saying you're going to put food on your family is a gaffe, saying the country would have been better off electing a segregationist isn't).

I agree totally. That bunch just went looking for something to jump on. If it hadn't been Lott's comment it would have been someone else. I could say I don't like watermelon and be accused of being racist. Believe me they will go after others. In fact they have already started.

This is yet another sad tragic moment for us Republicans, but you dearly beloved Freepers, as usual, made me laugh through my tears.

I could not bear to watch this torture. Every hour Lott remains as ML does us harm. BET appearance tonite was a mistake. Everytime he speaks in public is a mistake. Only we pay for it.

It's not a racist issue, for Lott. It's a stupidity issue. He's so stupid, it should be a crime.
