If one has any individual initiative whatsoever, Germany sounds like the perfect country to get the hell out of.

We have a milder version of the same illness. Will we fix the hole in our roof now, or will we wait until things reach the crisis stage? It is the nature of bureaucracy to do the later.

Germany will insist that they don't have to do anything to change their system, right until they slip into a major depression, and then they will blame foreigners - Americans, Turks, Jews - for their troubles. It is also worth noting that the center-right parties have no alternative solutions either. The first thing Edmund Stoiber promised was that he would conduct no serious reforms. If any German politician suggests that there is something fundamentally wrong with German Socialism he is ostracized from all major parties except the FDP, and they're not too great either.
