The senator’s own political party does not come to his aid. Many do not want to be associated with the senator, fearing that a prejudiced black electorate will link them to the senator and the foul smell of racism.

The President of the United States, with this same fear in mind, repudiates the senator’s remarks without voicing support for the man himself, who the president has known and worked alongside for many years.

These same politicians, and the President himself, have continually failed to similarly rebuke black critics of the senator who are guilty of open, habitual, and obvious racism toward white Americans.

I dunno - flirting with segregationist and neoconfederate secessionist groups while claiming that the GOP is the ideological heir to Jefferson Davis is pretty damning evidence in my book.<p, especeially considering that he spent his college and fraternity years as a segregationist, his early working years working for a segregationist governor, etc.

Trent Lott currently has a problem with his views on race - it is ongoing, and it is wrong.

I don't get it. Are they scared of losing the black vote that they've never gotten in the first place? I'm so tired of whites bowing down to the minority race. The biggest racists in this country in today’s times are the blacks. I'm tired of apologizing for the past for which I had nothing to do with. The only segregationists in this country are the blacks, with their BET and Miss Black America Pageants and so on. It amazes me that the very people who segregate are the ones bitching about a man who believed in segregation some 40+ years ago. Damn Hypocrites!
