Get your brain around the fact that this is entirely about Trent Lott and his abysmal judgement. When he leaped off the cliff, it's not our fault we couldn't rescind the law of gravity.
To give you some perspective: I didn't want Lott as Majority Leader, but once he was re-elected, I didn't want him to self-desctruct. Had I been on his speechwriting staff helping him with his tribute to Thurmond, I'd have been screaming at him not to go down the road with the Dixiecrats the way that he did.
Unfortunately, Trent Lott served the Democrats his own head on a platter, and only he had the ability, and only for a short time, to take it off again. He didn't. Now life is moving on.
Who cares? Mostly you have the "party of personal destruction," led by the socialist black caucus stirring the cauldron. Aided and abetted, of course,
by assorted Lott haters of the right
(of which I admit to being one, but do not join in this lynching).
