Of course the standards should be higher. But should the standards be established by race-baiters? Should those who have questionable history in race issues be the determiners of what's right or not?

I don't think so.

No, but the existence of a double standard shouldn't be our excuse for lowering ours; we should hold the Democrats to a higher standard.

That we haven't is mostly our fault, and Senator Lott, ironically, is more culpable than most in that. I wonder why?

His remarks at Thurmond's party were beyond stupid, and his failure to get out in front of this early leave him no longer viable as Majority Leader. To an extent, the Dems have won this one. We need to cut our losses, regroup, and get the knives sharp for payback.

No- it should not be determined by racists or race baiters

It should however be detremined by us.

Recent events have brought to light numerous and I mean numerous events with wich a solid argument can be made that Sen. Chester Trent Lott is a racist.

In 2001, Lott cast the only vote against the confirmation of Judge Roger Gregory, the first African American judge ever seated on the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Even Thurmond voted for Gregory.

Gregory was a W BUSH appointee!

We used to have a saying in the conservative part of the GOP:

"Character Matters"

But should the standards be established by race-baiters?

The standards are set by common sense and common decency. That's why conservative writers and journalists were calling for Lott to quit the Majority Leader post days before Jackson and Sharpton even noticed the story.

My mama told me that just because other people were acting bad, it didn't mean I have the right to act bad too. The fact that the Dems are hypocrites and Jackson and Sharpton are race-baiters doesn't make Lott's remarks either less stupid or less wrong.

Besides, think about what you're saying. You're saying that Republicans can't dissociate themselves decisively from segregation-nostalgia until the Democrats stop race-baiting. So in 2022, the Republican Party will still be trying to assure the country that it's not in favor of Jim Crow, the likes of Vacant Lott will still be shooting it in the foot with cr*p like this, and people like you will be saying, "Hell, no, stand tall, we can't let Jesse Jackson, Jr. set the standards."

And those alienated swing voters will just carry President Karenna Gore Schiff right on to a second term in '24.

You mean race baiters like Peggy Noonan, David Frum and the editors of the National Review?
