The article makes it sound like McConnell was speculating, not raising this because he had heard it from Lott personally.

He explained on This Week today that that is what has happened in the past. Everyone that resigned also resigned their seat. He went on to explain that in this case he wasn't sure Lott would do this because MS Democratic Governor.
