Well at least that is a way for Lott to save face and possibly stay in the Senate. It really all depends upon how it's handled within the Senate and what the Senators choose to do. Based upon what I'm reading here from many of the so called conservative Republlicans, they want to hand Lott his head on a platter. If that mentality continues then imo opinion Lott has not choice but to resign and get away from the party that holds him in such contempt. Any person with any amount of self respect would leave, I believe. It appears Lott is despised by many on this forum.

Most of this board have never liked Lott's leadership inability. Power share with the Democrats waa a major mistake. Then they didn't hold out for getting votes on judges.

Tom is a darn good senator but not a very good leader.

Hopefully First will be a better leader.

At this point it doesn't matter though because Lottt's believes on segaration have no place in todays political areana. This is fine though as long as he is not the Leader.

LOL, deport you have been here long enough to know that sooner or later everyone takes a turn being despised on this forum!

No, I've been saying from the first that a politically savy move would be to step down (along with a long, soul wrenching statement that says he's doing this for the good of the party, that although he's collegues know that he is not a racist, this sacrifice is necessary and that he knows that conservatives are held to an impossibly high standard, and he's going to use his time in the senate to prove to the country what the people of Mississippi already know....yada yada yada". Then he should take a very high profile position on a very important committee.

That will just KILL the race baiters because they will have accomplished nothing.

Frist is the ideal man to step in. He's only going to be in the senate another 2 years (the length of time for a ML) and then he wants to return to being a surgeon. There is no real worry about him wanting to stay on because if he stays away too long he will lose his skill and everyone knows that he loves being a physician far more than he likes being in the senate. Nichols will be content, McConnell will be content, and Lott has a chance to rehab his image and come back stronger and wiser than before. The ball is in their court, let the best man win.

Oh yeah, and pop some popcorn and pull up a chair because it'll really be fun watching the dems!!!!!
