I respect Bill Bennett. I don't agree with him on everything. I don't agree with him here, just as I didn't agree with him on Prop 187, which advocated English only in California schools. (The English-only classes which Prop 187 brought about are working beautifully,BTW.) Nobody's infallible.

Sen Bayh just said on Fox News that no one in the Senate thinks Lott is a racist. He also said he should step down because the issue would dog him, and impair his effectiveness. Thanks for the kind words by the way.

I think you have become so emotionally involved in this situation that you may not be able to see the big picture anymore. If you look back on Lott's record, this is not the first time he has shown segregationist tendencies and it's not the first time he has made segregationist remarks. For you, it seems easier to blame the President than Lott. I just cannot relate to your unbending support for Senator Lott, no matter what the facts are. He didn't even think he had done anything wrong for days and refused to address the issue at all. Then phoned-in apologies, tepid at best. I understand there is no use trying to reason with you on this particular issue so I am no longer going to try. Have a good day, though. God bless.
