That would kill any future lobbying bonanza Trent is contemplating.

Lott could serve on 5 or 6 boards of Mississippi companies who would love to have him and for which he's done a great deal in his time in Congress.

In addition, his family is wealthy.

Lott has the whip hand here, not George W. Bush or any "FBI Files" that may or may not be floating around.

Thanks. I really do hope Trent Lott can stay where he is. If it's untenable do you have sympathy for him if he leaves the Senate in a huff ....Allowing a RAT takeover? Sure he can rake in the big bucks outside but does he want to be known for this in Washington DC (rest of nation doesn't care)

Just what Tommy Daschle is plotting is it not?

Lott will never go back to Mississippi. He loves his home state the way Bob Dole loved Kansas. Folks who have lived in DC that long & who believe politics is life believe DC is the only place in the universe. Chester would as soon live in outer Mongolia as live more than 100 miles from the political capitol.

Not if he hands the senate to the democrats they won't. Ask the dairy farmers how happy they are about Jeffords. Even a dem owned firm wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole because of the backlash.

If this man loves Mississippi, he'll sit down and become the chair of a nice, influential committee. To do otherwise would harm his state and he knows that.
