It seems an odd conduit. One would think Rove would call McConnell, rather than a newbie. I don't think the McCain connection matters much.

Will you try and make an effort to get your facts correct before you post? There has been no such confirmation of a such a story.

Can you provide any evidence that Lott made the threat (to leave the Senate)?

"I have voted for republicans all of my life but if they are going to go along with character assassination in league with the leftist news media and the democrats, I will have to change that." Thats blackmail.

"I don't think the McCain connection matters much."

Why would Rove select Graham when he hasn't even been sworn in yet?

If you take the Commerce Committee Chairmanship away from McCain, he'll leave the party.

Under normal circumstances, I would agree with you. However, in this case I don't think he will. The reason is that Lott is the Senate Majority Leader and he is being demoted so for McCain to throw a temper tantrum for being demoted from Chairman to Vice-Chairman would look very bad indeed and would expose him to all as the immature cry baby we all know him to be. I'm not sure he wants everyone to realize how venal he really is because he may still espouse presidential ambitions.

I know two people who were at that birthday party when Lott made his remarks. They said there was an audible GASP when Lott said that, not because of WHAT he said, but because he was stupid enough TO say it.

There's also a rumor going around that Lott is blackmailing Bush--threatening to resign from the Senate entirely if he is called upon to step down as Majority Leader, which could place Republican control of the Senate in jeopardy.

Did Lott get up and say "I fully support segregation." at the birthday party?? I must have missed that. He said he wished his friend had been elected President. D*mn, lets drag him out and shoot him at sunrise! I still can't believe that republicans are howling for blood over this BS!

Paul Gigot (WSJ) on Meet the Press today said: "I think he (Lott) owes the senators an election." He meant ANOTHER election since Lott had rushed through one 2 weeks ago.

At this point, I agree. WE should know what the GOP senators are willing to live with.

WE should know what the GOP senators are willing to live with.

And then WE can decide what we are willing to live with.

You need to do some talking to people Trent's age. I'm young and it did not sink in at first. His statement was truly offensive to those old enough to understand it.

However, Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky defended Lott on Sunday and urged the party to "accept this apology and move on."

I never understood why the Republican party has its "principles" to think about but the Democrat party doesn't.

I fail to understand your point.

Is it that they don't have principles therefore we shouldn't either?

This issue is not about them it's about us. Those who balk at doing the right thing because "they" are hypocrites and "they" do it too are missing the point.

In my view we have the chance to capture the moral high ground and hold it. We need to keep our own house in order and if we do so they will be forced to begin to worry about the moral pigsty they occupy.

Too many times we have been done in by our own dirty laundry. You cannot speak with any authority if you are not "clean" yourself.

Look at the spineless Republicans who laid low on the Clinton impeachment because they didn't want the finger pointed at them.
