ITS ALREADY STARTED THE LEFT IS IN FULL ACTION AGAINST THIS TRAITOR NICKLES It looks like Trent Lott's potential successor as Majority Leader, Don Nickles, has some questionable acts of his own, for which he should apologize.
Nickles a traitor you say? Who's the real traitor to the Republican Party here? I say it's Lott who has sacrificed the GOP majority on two occaisions from Jan-June 2001 and again from November 2002- Jan 03 due to being consistently outmanuevered by Tommy Boy Daschle. Nickles opposed Lott the first time he caved to the RATS and probably opposed him the second time as well. Based on your rash statements here, I guess Bush is a traitor too for ripping Lott to shreds and saying he would not support him for Senate Majority Leader in any future leadership race!

Kevin Martin, government and political affairs director of the African American Republican Leadership Council, said people were overreacting. "By no means was he endorsing segregation or anything like that," Martin said. "It was lighthearted. It was humorous." Martin said Lott wins 25 percent of the black vote in Mississippi, which he said couldn't happen if Lott were a racist.

Lott has clearly revealed that he cares only about Trent Lott. An honorable man would resign rather than resort to craven and obviously insincere apologies.

Like I said, if the GOP self destructs, I'm voting independant along with 20 million other southern voters.

What could Lott do to redeem himself? He has tried to apologize FOUR TIMES. That's not enough for some because it has NEVER been about RACE and everyone knows it. Let "sheets" Byrd lead the KKK and not one person cares.

I didn't slap anybody. I just asked you to name some Black Republican Office-holders who support Trent Lott today. Can you? If so, fine. If not, fine. But don't accuse the party of not listening to its own black members unless you can offer some evidence.

Just who the Texas senators vote for will tell you a lot about what Bush is thinking, I would suspect. Ditto for the senators that are there because of Bush, like Talent and Coleman. Hutchinson would be great from a media perspective. I don't know anything about her inside baseball skills.

Senator Nickles wouldn't have made this bold move without first counting votes. It looks like he will be the incoming Senate Majority Leader.

Lott will never go back to Mississippi. He loves his home state the way Bob Dole loved Kansas. Folks who have lived in DC that long & who believe politics is life believe DC is the only place in the universe. Chester would as soon live in outer Mongolia as live more than 100 miles from the political capitol. How do you know this? I'm really anxious to know.
Phil Gramm has been in the Congress as long as Lott, and he's getting away from Washington as fast as he can.

Like I said earlier about the republicans, since Bush and Powell slammed our Christian leaders we have had nothing but losses since and this is going to be the biggest one.
Kiss the senate goodbye, if you are all allowed to tarnish Lott who will be next? So be it.
God does have a sense of humour!

Trent Lott, is not, nor has EVER been, Phil Gramm. That's the difference.
To: savedbygrace
No, Nickles doesn't have the votes. The moderates would never vote for him.
And after his performance today, I suspect he's lost some conservative votes, as well. Who could trust him?
Geeze, talk about stupid.
To: Mr Rogers
No, they will just stay home like they did in Louisiana. People sometimes get tired of supporting people who don't stand for anything but more personal destruction of their own party.

If Lott were to jeopardize the Republican majority in the Senate, there would be no place he could hide. Every door wou;d be shut to him, and he would have to live on his Senate pension because Bush, for one, has a large rolledex. That's wishful thinking on your part, Robby.
Lott's family is independently wealthy, and there are lots of Mississippi companies Lott has helped who would be proud to have him on their boards.
Lott's been around longer than George W., especially in Mississippi.

How would you feel if Pelosi made some lighthearted remark about abortion?

I've been patiently waiting for this shoe to drop, and now that it has, I have but one thing to say:
Y-E-S!!!!!!!!!!!!!
An unfortunate way to shuffle ol' Trent out of the door, but from a glass half full perspective, his stupid comments came at a good time (with Congress not in session).
Don is a solid leader who has had to suffer fools like Lott for too long.
Cream always rises to the top, eh?
