But if he is saying that if he steps down as majority leader he will leave the senate and actually does it, leaving the Rat governor of Mississippi to select a Rat replacement for Lott, the senate will be toast.

I'm not the least bit upset with Lott for what he said. I think it was just mindless words meant to compliment Strom Thurmond and nothing more. What I am upset with him, AND with other Republicans about, is allowing the Rats to make a big deal of it and to let Lott take the fall that they may opportunistically replace him as majority leader. While I agree he should be replaced, or at least should have been, I think it is reprehensible that they would use such a triviality to do it and if he steps down altogether, it may blow up in their faces. Either way, the Rats have already won. If he stays as leader now, he will be kissing their sorry butts and playing slave to the likes of Shiela Jackson Lee and Maxine Waters and any other black Rat that wants to hop on the slavemaster bandwagon, which will render him completely impotent as even a Republican, let alone majority leader.

We agree, then. Lott has to go as SML.

We don't know that. As I read the Mississippi statutes, if Lott resigns from the Senate in calendar 2002, the Governor of Mississippi must schedule a special election within 90 days to name his replacement. He could appoint an interim Senator, but only for 90 days. Another window occurs in late 2003; if Lott resigns in, say, September or October of 2003, his replacement would be chosen in the general election in November.

I do not know what the risk is of a Democrat winning such an election, but for sure what will not happen is that the current Governor would appoint someone to serve out Lott's term.

It is NOT a "triviality" that Lott said what he said. GET THIS. Even if you believe everything his friends, including some of his black friends, say that he is not a racist (although if I were african-american and truly believed he was a good guy, I would still find very cold comfort in all of this), his republican colleagues have EVERY LEGITIMATE REASON to be pissed off at him. What he did raises serious questions about the caliber of his intellect, the quality of his judgement, the level of his competency and the efficacy of his leadership. Someone who was capable of such as spectacularly STUPID blunder doesn't have any business running the US Senate any more than my three year old nephew does. He's the Dennis the Menace of the Republican Party who has a weird compulsion to bring discredit on them all, and I don't think that serious minded Republicans or conservatives who care about the future of this country have to put up with his mindless Ole Miss, Oh Sh*t f*ck%ps anymore.
